I am thinking of breeding from our little Novice event mare.

She is 148cm Newfie x Sec D and has reasonable conformation and a temperament and ability unsurpassed.

I have an Opposition mare who impresses me with her athletic ability and 'can do' attitude and think than an Opposition stallion would be a useful cross.

Now I know of Opposition Heracles and Future Illusion but wondered if there were any others about, preferably with high % of TB blood.

Contact details/websites would be useful too.

Thanks

Yarlands Summersong, though he stands in France and there's some issue over his sperm not freezing well I think.
John's got a young stallion I think- he'd be good to speak to http://www.landfordcommonstud.co.uk/

I'd probably pick Future Illusion but Hero is a fab jumper (he's just packed full of character!!)

Much as I like FI, I wouldn't breed to him if I was paid to send a mare of mine to him.......

Is Yarlands SummerSong the same as the summersong that was the olympic medallist?

Yes, with Marie C-D. There was a colt on Horsequest by him, very smart but 7k

I saw one of Summer songs sons at Bricky it won the novice seriously smart looking horse.

Could you PM me too? Hubby was thinking of sending his mare to FI. Thanks

That is fantastic- I never realised that he was still alive, nor did I realise that he was a stallion ! Heard so much about him about 10 years ago, but nothing since.

Am a bit wary of the FI colt having seen it at PAVO

I'm so intrigued!!

I know the breeder of Opposition very well and its very interesting hearing stories about him as a young horse, and to hear about that families traits. Yes he's known to be sharp, it comes from his dam line. But he was also seriously talented. You just need to select the right mare for him.
Still dying to know what it is people know about FI though

With regard to Future Illusion- I know this horse personally and therefore feel its an absolute shame that people are spreading nasty gossip about him.

He is a lovely stallion and his temperament is absolutly second to none! On top of that, his first crop of foals have also inherited his superb temperament plus did very well at the BEF evaluations (getting 1st premiums and one being joint highest scoring foal of the day).

Ofcourse everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but shouldnt it be based on fact rather than malicious gossip?

Future Illusion is currently in training with Jeanette Breakwell (who would also vouch for his lovely, easy temperament). If anyone is in any doubt about him, they should go and see him for themselves!

Hello Miss Marrit. As I see that you responded to me directly, I shall offer you the same courtesy. This is what I actually said

So you can see that I do like the horse himself! I saw 2 of his foals at the Arena UK BEF Futurity Evaluations and liked them both - the high scoring one was extremely good looking! I am not spreading nasty gossip about the horse at all. Just stating my opinion, as I am entitled to. I'm sure he has a lovely temperament - I never doubted it!

I wasn't replying to you specifically as there are several unsubstansiated and unhelpful comments....

I am a little confused how a statement of quote "I wouldn't breed to him if I was paid to...." could be interpreted as anything other than disparaging, especially when its not backed up with the reason for that remark. I don't believe anyone else on this board interpreted your remark as anything other than negative, given the responses of other posters.

Its great to hear that you like Future Illusion however, and I hope this clears up this misunderstanding.... mind you, when stallion owners (I'm not referring to you here) pass unsubstansiated negative comments about other stallions I can't help but think it says more about them than it does about the stallion they are condemning...

Ahhh but, that statement, was preceeded by "Much as I like FI". I suppose it is human nature to take up more on the negative part of what was said, not the positive. I can't speak for the other people who responded in a similar vein though... I know not, their motives for doing so.

Just so you know, I'm not a stallion owner

But then I guess you know that eh.

I'm not gonna get my knuckles rapped for saying! The horse is good looking IMO and the 2 offspring of his that I have seen are lovely. I know nothing about his temperament. Take from that what you will.

No probs

Just wondered if it was something I wasn't seeing. Don't want to get you into trouble! (

I have to admit to being somewhat bewildered that you can apparently say you wouldn't use a stallion if you were paid to without saying WHY? Of course some things are better not said in open forum if you have defamatory views, but that statement gives out far more negative messages than positive.

It simply isn't enough to say such things and then counter it with 'Much as I like FI' when clearly you have some issue with the horse.

As a small time breeder I would be interested to hear more.
