I just got the new Rideaway catalogue & they have the new Optimus range of saddles, dressage, gp & jump, all £249 each (NOT the YORKS) pics arent that good as you cant see front or underneath....anyone got one, or seen one or tried one? lol. Ive got high withered tb (who i think is gonna end up W fit eventually) but am having nightmare finding something to fit in meantime!!

I replied to another thread about these in NL yesterday. I have the leather version of the puissance jump so can only comment on that, but I am very impressed with fit and quality for the price (on TB). The leather is very soft, good panels with plenty of flocking etc.

I personally dislike synthetic tack; and would spend the extra £150 on a leather version of the optimus, but each to their own.

Def. worth a look anyway- i wouldnt like them for a cobby type as panels are a little 'triangular' when new rather than flat as a pancake for something with a back like a sofa; but it seems perfect for tb and wb x types (n/m, m and m/w fits!). The jump saddle feels more like a very forward cut GP, with a good seat. I wasn't wowed by the GP version and thought it looked a bit pokey for leg room, although i am very long from hip to knee and have short back horses so 16.5/17" is the max I have to play with!

Aha, glad you said that about leg room, I have long legs too & can only really use 17", so you would recommend the jump version then? Would this interfere with shoulder though, very high withered tb has large shoulders as well!

The TB I bought mine for has humongous shoulders with plenty of growing yet to do and it seems to float over the shoulder perfectly fine. I think everything in front of the points is fully flexible so rests over the shoulder.
Yes, definately advise the jump over the GP; jump has a nice seat and a good deep kneeroll. Think more GFS Event and you get the idea. GP version looked like a contortion activity for me, and as it is I try to minimise the effect that I am maybe a little too 'limby' for my horses! The 16.5" jump fits me fine and I'm 5'7 with a 36" inside leg.

I too saw the advert in the rideaway catalogue and was looking at the leather dressage one, although it looks a bit...odd...any one actually seen one??

Really interested in this thread. I have had my eye on them for a while now for a TB but cant find anywhere that actually stocks them to look at or even try on before buying. Even better would be a stockist with a fitter!
I even emailed Shires asking but never got a reply.
I'm more tempted now by the fact the only person i've ever heard of having one uses it on a TB and is happy with it ;-)

Saw the leather ones in a store today, have to say i wasnt impressed with them. I was very interested as i saw the add in Rideaway catalogue.

It looked like stiff imported leather with a layer of soft leather stitched on top. I may be wrong but it was definitely softer leather sewed on top at least.

I will be completey honest and I have never heard of them by my sisters tb is in a Wintec 500 vsd and it fits him like a glove with out his saddle cloth on. He works beautifully in it.

xx

I think they are fair for the price.

I'm keeping them in mind for I come to back my youngster as my local tack shop have got them new for £150, so if it gets wreaked or out grown it doesn't really matter.
