Katie is in her final year of A Levels and is keeping Dolly competition fit. She’s got enough on her plate. She’s not even sure she wants to keep Dolly going another year as she’s getting a bit stressed about work. Mocks in 3 weeks. She’d love another year on her but is getting a bit overwhelmed about exams. There’s no pressure from me to keep competing - she could just ride for fun. But competing is what she loves so it’s kind of all or nothing really.

Update.... The YO was not keen on me getting a freelancer (she is a bit of a control freak) so she agreed to do mornings only 4 days a week. That was just about ok though I have realised that when she is doing them they have no/little turnout at the faintest hint of drizzle. I accept she needs to protect the fields. The real problem is there is not enough turn out for the number of horses. Plus I actually need the option of full livery if I am away with work. I can't rely on friends and work is very unpredictable and all over the country potentially.

So I have been keeping an eye out and feeling pretty gloomy about the prospects of finding anywhere. But I think I have fallen on my feet. Feels too good to be true! 200 acres with unlimited turnout all year round as individuals, pairs or groups. Big stables. In foal mares are fine - they have a foaling box as YO has had a few home breds. Miles and miles of offroad hacking from the doorstep. Full livery only and still cheaper than my current assisted livery arrangement as the 'one off prices' are much higher than the all week full livery used to be and I am on that higher fee structrure as basically the YO does not want to offer it anymore! Which is fair enough but not much use to me. Even a floodlit arena too. And less than 15 minutes away. A hidden gem I never knew existed. But a person is leaving so her places got advertised and I jumped at it.

I am sad to go but think the new place is much better suited. Only real issue is possibly going to the weather! It's in the highest village in England and way off the beaten track. I imagine quite bleak at times, But it's full livery anyway so I don;t have to be worried about not getting there in snow.

Well done! That's a great find.

I know, I'm pinching myself. Going to have a look on Sunday but I have reserved the stables anyway! I can't risk missing out on something that sounds so perfect. The only downside is leaving a friendly yard where I get on with everyone and am very good friends with a couple of people. I hope everyone in the new place is nice. I've never been on a full livery only yard before. ALways DIY or assisted/full. But thinking back, most fall outs on yards seem to be among DIYers arguing about how things should be done. Especially on yards without a good manager where some liveries apppoint themsevels as head girl/prefect of the yard and boss everyone else around. It will be interesting to see if the dynamic is different on a full livwery only yard. I am by no means a control freak - my beds are not the cleanest or neatest, my stuff is not scrubbed every day, I go a while before poo picking sometimes etc. So as long as the stables are not minging, the fields are not full of ragwort or crap, the fencing is safe and the horses look healthy and happy I will be fine on full livery, I think. What a luxury!

I know which yard you mean (or I think so at least based on the highest village in England comment) - Louise is lovely & I’m sure you’ll be very happy at her yard.

Sounds lovely.

In my part of the USA most places are on full board/livery. Many of the top barns/yards require that the horse owners take lessons with the resident trainer.

Nah, Staffs is better at road clearing than either Cheshire or Derbyshire, and with climate change you'll be fine if you can cope with wind. If you have off road hacking on the doorstep I'm jealous, can I box over (10 minutes) and come for a hack ? ?
