How do I use an ordnance survey map, am I right in thinking this is the map that shows where horses are allowed?

Also, what areas are horses allowed? ie public footpaths, permissive bridleways????

I'm looking for some new routes to jazz up my weekend hacks!!

I only ever use the OS maps with the orange covers, as they are on a bigger scale than the ones with pink covers. On these (Orange ones), then the Public Bridleways (which you CAN ride on) are usually marked with longer green dashes. Public footpaths (which you are NOT allowed to ride on) are marked with much shorter green dashes. OS maps do not usually tend to show permissive bridleways, as these are usually put into place by the owner of the land the permissive bridleway is crossing (whether the landowner be a farmer, estate manager, forestry commission etc. etc) - and as they are not Public Bridleways, a permissive bridleway could, in theory, be closed at any time by the landowner.
