YO just hit us with the lovely information that all our feeds need to be organic in accordance with his organic certification (despite it never being a problem for the years it has been certified....)

Anyway, trying to find out if my feeds are organic, and if not, what are, and I'm struggling. Nowhere seems to outright say 'Hey, we're organic!' apart from companies that will certainly charge you for the privilege. So I'm getting flustered and grumpy about this.

Can anyone advise if any of the following are organic (I have my suspicions about a couple hah):

Honeychop Plain Oat Chaff
Allen and Page Fast Fiber
Saracen Level Growth Pencils
Baileys Fiber Plus Nuggets

And what alternative brands are organic without charging silly money? I can't really afford £20 per bag of chaff

Would it be really naughty to suggest you buy a bag of organic nuts and a bag of organic chaff, then when they are empty top them up with normal stuff!! :O

Otherwise you could ring Allen & Page and ask them to confirm the suitability of their feeds, as they are advertised as GM free and their website states: "Allen & Page Ltd manufactures and distributes animal feed which fully conforms to customers’ orders and technical specifications whilst ensuring that the Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental systems meet and continue to meet the requirements of the current UFAS Code of Practice, current versions of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, Soil Association Organic Standard and Vegetarian Society Standards. The Company’s quality, environmental and health and safety objectives shall be observed at all stages of production, distribution and services.

You could ask YO to grow oats for the horses, then you have the straw for the bedding and the oats for the feed, their hay and straw can be put through a chaff cutter or an electric wood chopper from B&Q

IME you shouldn't need to feed horses organically only GM free. We have been organic for 15 years, my horses have never been an issue nor feed organic feed. I suspect that your YO has had an inspection from someone who doesn't know the correct rules. Ask them to contact their licensing body directly ( soil association or OF & G) directly to confirm the situation.
Organic feed is only necessary if animals are entering the food chain to be sold as organic.

Could be the fact that the horses move around the farm and their droppings affect the soil. Bear in mind that Barley was genetically modified many decades ago - Once upon a time it had awns on the seed head - now it doesn't
