My pony has recently been ill with Colitis, I am thinking about gradually changing over to organic feeds eg Simple Systems, I cannot find anything much on the web about it other than their own website.Does anyone know anything about it or have used it etc. Looks like commercial traditional feeds are full of nasty preservatives etc and its a minefield trying to work out what is best for my pony.

I just went on their website Simple????
I am sure someone will come on who uses it but it doesnt seem that straightforward.
I use mainly Allen and Page ,not organic but no nasty additives, and very simple :D,they do cereal intolerance /molasses free etc. The helpline is very good.

I am Allen and Page fan too, the sugar beet which they use as a basis for a lot of their feeds is not treated with lots of chemicals compared to modern arable farming products, and they are very careful about sources I have found Fast Fibre to give be very good feed, also Calm and Condition.
There are organic feed companies, but more difficult to source

Check out Thunderbrook feeds website.
They have just what you are looking for and if you phone them are very helpful.
I have had 3 on it for the last 4 months and they look fantastic.

Simple Systems is a whole way of feeding, not just to replace traditional feeds. It is a "system." I have used SS and have friends as well, and have found that while many people have been really happy with the results, I found that my lazy chap just got fatter and lazier, and that they really are more suited to a fizzy horse, TB, arab, etc. Presumably because the nice full gut gives the horse a comfortable feeling.

Brewers Yeast has a good reputation for stabilising the gut, as well as being full of vitamins, and I have noticed that since feeding that the droppings from horse and pony have improved.
