I've just come across the article in H&H a while ago about the UKs first and only Organic Livery Yard.

www.stonecirclelivery.com

With only 9 stables it provides 'exclusive full livery' at £120 a week.

So, my questions are:

1. Would it interest you to have your horse on 'organic livery'?
2. Do you think £120 (in the SE) for full livery is reasonable? Would you pay more/less?
3. Is it a unique selling point?
4. The yard also has webcams in each stable - would you watch it?

I would watch the webcam. But what about vaccinations etc?
How many horse feeds are organic? What if your horse doesn't get on with their hay?
Something else that bothers me looking at the site is that it is all very regulated, reads like you have to use their instructors and fit in, which might be fine until you have a different idea?
But will probably suit some people!

I like the idea of organic feed and bedding,so that would be a selling point for me

£120 is very reasonable when you consider what is included in the package

It might be unique at the moment but is easily copied

Life is too short for webcams in stables, unless foaling. However the idea of recording lessons in the school and downloading those is very good

1. I would like to graze her on a field which wasnt fertalised (sp) with chemical sprays, but i appreciate that is not always possible.

2. We are in South Cambs and livery is £95 week, this is only mon- friday livery. I wouldnt pay more than that for organic- are they able to produce things onsite to reduce their overheads?

3. Could be, im sure there are some folk out there it would appeal too.

4. possibly, more so if travelling away.

hope that helps!

From organic trees? if they are chemical free through growth and have nothing added during manufacture I suppose it could be done.......

Think harvest by products are more likely though

I'm on an organic livery yard. We have to feed GM-free food and make sure the horses are in for 24 hours after worming but that's about all.

A friend of mine runs her private yard as organic- as its part of an organic farm so they had to be organic to make sure no contamination etc. Hay and straw are self gorw- they use natural wormers and do worm counts. Feed is only from 2 suppliers I think one is allen and page. They dont allow any other bedding other than straw - but i guess as its private yard she can put in what rules she likes. Vaccinations are allowed as usual. Only natural fertilisers used... pasturea and horses all look great. She says its more expensive but no hassle at all to do.

personally the worming would worry me a lot... I have absoloutly no interest in keeping my horses in an 'organic' way... especially if it restricts how i look after them... sorry, i look to do things my way! dont want anyone to tell me what to do, so i personally wouldnt pay £5 a week for that!
