Hi, we are planning on taking the ponies to the beach for the first time! We are based in Reading/ Oxfordshire way so what is the best sandy beach closeish to us? If so are there restrictions on riding at the beach with times and months or days etc? Do we literally box up and park in a car park nearby and unload and walk them to the beach? Is that allowed?!

You need to check tide times - ride at low tide. Then check on local authority website the times riding is allowed on beach, Round here some beaches are unrestricted others April-October riders have to be off the beach by 7am and not allowed on again until 7pm.

For my local beach, I find it's OK 2 hours either side of low tide. If your travelling there, I would suggest going for 2 hours before to give yourself time.
Also check parking costs/payment. It's not very clear on the signs that horse box parking is more than car and I have seen people ticketed for it. Also requires card payment. I need to take a mounting block as nothing there to use.

Our riding club organise beach rides occasionally on Studland Beach. Here’s the latest info sent out:

Studland is a lovely sand beach on the Jurassic coast, horses are allowed on in the winter and at low tide the sand is a perfect surface.

Plenty of parking, toilets and cafe facilities. Postcode - BH19 3AH

What3words: canine.pelts.warm

It is a National Trust site so if you are a member, bring your card for free parking!

£25 each

The £25 cost is for the NT passes - more details here:
