Was wondering if the weather was crap (looking at 10th December) about using the indoor school, only problem being it is a bit narrower than a normal sized dressage arena - or just stick with the outdoor whatever the weather, marked out with jump poles? (doing P7 N21 and a freestyle to music!!)

I have a judge, rosettes, am ordering the score sheets from BD this week, have printed out schedule and entry forms - getting a writer should'nt be a problem - probably me!

Is there anything else i've forgotton? Oh and charging £3 per class or £4 on the day.

I'd have thought people wd appreciate the indoor - esp if the weather is like today, sudden sharp showers, could ruin someone's test. Doubt they would mind about it being narrower - is it spooky? Wd you have room to site the judge? Do you need a large piece of card/paper to write up the final scores? Are you organising it for fellow yard members? Sounds like a nice idea (and good value for money too!). Good luck!

Hmmm... if it was me I would rather do a test outdoors in a correctly sized arena. You could have the warm-up indoors so people would only be out in the rain (if it did rain) for a few minutes.

I'd charge £4 in advance - still cheap!

Good luck

Today I was asked where the money was going?

errr, Rosettes, score sheets and paying the judge!!!!!!!!! Thats £50 to start with! Not doing it to make a profit!

I spoke to the judge today and she thinks it would be better in the outdoor and warm up in the indoor

Oooohh, I will need a steward too - that just reminded me!! So Steward and something to write the final scored on! Thanks B

Yes, its for fellow liveries, and any other locals that are interested, let me know if you fancy it!

I think 4 pounds is incredibly good value - I've never entered a dressage competition charging less than 10 per class, even low-key unaffiliated local ones

With regard to warm up / show arenas
You warm up for 40 minutes & compete for 6, so might be better off having indoor warm up / outdoor competition.

If you are not looking to make money, make all entries £5 and nominate a charity for the surplus.

If you do entries on the day - how will you do times (judge will appreciate a running order / finish time)

IF you run indoor competition, you MUST let competitors know actual arena size (put a tape measure across the building rather than assuming on building size - as these are exterior dimensions)

Only reason I said was cheap was that I recently organised a CT and dressage show at our yard...charged £4 for dressage and £6.50 for CT. Raised £80 and we bought some Plastic SJ poles. But our YO bought rosettes and I judged the dressage and donated the score sheets.

Let us know how it goes.

As this is the first one, will see how it goes and if there is enough interest, will do another to raise funds for showjumps, it seems to be the kids that are most interested at the mo!

Hopefully will be a fun day!

I've volunteered to run a clear round day for the kids next weekend!!!!!!! What have I let myself in for???? I dug out all my old rosettes and have managed to find 10 clear round ones, and have ironed them tonight!! Lets hope that will be enough!

How do people manage insurance for these small yard competitions. I have run one at our place but only opened it to current liveries at the yard because we didnt have insurance.

If you invite the general public surely you need adequate cover for the event?

It is only for liverys from the yard, there are about 40, so hopefully should get enough entries to make it a good day. There are two people who left the yard, who are stabled round the corner that want to come - will have to see.

See I totally agree with this, yet all the venues round here warm up outdoors and compete indoors. I always mention that I'd rather it was the other way round, but apperently most competitors don't want to go outside and compete in the wind and rain for 6 mins of test when not warmed up in it? Baffles me, I'd much rather stay warm and dry and just nip out to compete!!
