Hes been home now since just before Xmas and is on box rest for the next few month with inhand walking and grazing as much as we can. Hes lost so much weight and looks really unloved but hes still with us and a couple of times we didnt think he was coming home, so for him to be here at all is a small miracle!

His scar is healing well now after a small infection and we found out he was anaemic so is on stuff for that too now.

I have a question to anyone who has had a horse go through colic surgery, are they now on any suppliments to try to prevent it? Have you changed any of your stable management to try to help? Id be greatful for any hints and tips

Thanks - lets hope so too!! I think he likes to have a few months off a year coz he was on box rest this time last year too - maybe he doesnt like the cold!

I started mine on good supplement with pre and pro biotic (like ultimate balance). Management should just follow normal rules on times and making changes very slowly. Dont worry condition will come back.

Oh he's still doing well Iam really pleased to here it.

Supplements wise, it depends I can't remeber what kind of colic he had?

My mare who had to have the opperation would have so benefitted from coligone or the horse ant acid suppliments as she was a chronic windsucker , unfortunatnley they weren't around in those days.

The other route might be pre/pro biotics or you might be looking into pure fibre diets.

As everything with horses there are options.
