Do joint supplements actually work? I’m a bit sceptical!

I have a dressage horse that has Osteoarthritis across her top line and wondered if there are any really good joint supplements?

Ingredients like glucosamine and MSM have been researched to be effective, but with so many equine products out there and lots of bold claims (one brand claims their supplement "prevents and resolves arthritis "!) , it is a mine field.

I've just ordered a palatability sample from Riaflex for my boy.

Thank you, really helpful.

I use equinins flexijoint. Had the highest amount of MSM and glucosamine that I could find for not too hideous a price.

Mine had hock fusion so I can’t say if the supplement helped but figured there’s no harm (except to my wallet) to keep on with it.

I read a study that showed pure glucosamine, and it did show to have a difference if fed from yearlings but it had to be fed for a long period to show any difference and in high quantities.

I was contemplating feeding my 5yo a joint supplement because of the chip on her hock… but they’re just all so expensive. Might be worth getting some glucosamine on its own.

Mine has mild hock arthritis and ive tried a whole range of supplements.. tumeric, boswellia, devils claw, pure glucosamine, premier flex ha & plus, cortaflex , science supplements flexability

the only thing that has made any difference is 24hr turnout, taking the shoes off and arthramid injections. Her hind end is now very flexable and no longer getting secondary niggles

so for me supplements have done nothing and i no longer feed any (apart from a balancer & oil)

i see on alot of fb pages people raving about boswellia so although it made no difference to mine i do think its worth trying!
