Just wondering what people's experiences are with OA? What pain relief was most suitable for your horses long term. Also anyone with locking stifle advice!!

Many thanks :)

My mare has been on Danilon for a year. The dose depends her degree of lameness, maximum 2 sachets a day. The consensus of opinion is that it is bad for the liver but she has been fine so far. The only downside is the price. Does anyone else know of an alternative?

Mine has ringbone (pastern arthritis). TBH he just gets a sachet of Danilon every day. He has been on a joint supplement for about 3 years but I've no idea whether it actually works as I don't know how bad he would have been without it. I've discussed pain relief at length with my vet and we both came to the conclusion that at 17 (16 when he started getting it), it is fine for him to have it daily. He likes to work and is unhappy when rested/out of work so he gets Danilon to enable him to continue working. He has lost some of the range of movement in his front legs but to all intents and purposes, is sound. I don't compete anymore, though I might do some DR over summer, and he hunts about once a month. On hunting days and the following day, he gets an extra sachet... still not a lot for a 17hh IDx!

The key IMHO has been getting a good remedial farrier on the case.
