Has anyone on here actually done any serious research or had and super fantastic feedback from any of the supplements on the market.

I am so confused - especially since the recent Medical Journal report stating that Chrondroiton and Glucosamine is basically rubbish.

Has anyone here managed to keep a horse going on a good supplement backed up with bute?

MY horse has major leg problems he was going to be pts i have put him on recovery eq they have a website i must say hes sound he never been on bute since but it has nutricol in it which i think works better than any other glucosamine supplement iv used but suppleeze gold is good as well as premier flex with devils claw i have also used vetrofen with good results but each horse is different

There is little/no published scientific evidence to say that any supplement other than electrolytes and your standard vit & mins actually make any difference. After the economy fall and recession, companies which produce supplements saw a major loss as people had to cut down on money and things which weren't neccessary..£60 a month supplements were the first things to go.
Since this, the companies have obviously needed to save money and the way some of them are doing this is by cutting down the active product eg. glucosamine in joint supplements...so you could be buying something which literally has half a teaspoon of active ingredient in, because they don't legally have to state how much it has in. Crazy!

Some people swear by them, some (like me :) ) think they are rubbish until they have been proven.

Hi, Ive been using high strengh coraflex and high strengh buteless as well as codliver oil for my mare. She was dianosed with athriitus in her fetlock joint and hock in April this year:(. she had been on one sachet of bute aday and ive gradually weened her off it. Id searched the internet and tried loads of diffenent supliments and I can honestly say these are working. My vet said I wouldnt be able to keep her sound enough to ride but Im hacking her a couple of times a week only in walk thanks to these supliments. :)

I'm not a fan of Devil's Claw or Buteless - I see more lame horses on this than sound....but hey ho.

Supplements are poorly monitored and as someone else has pointed out, have a very variable and uncontrolled level of product in them.

I don't agree with the medical paper stating that glucosamine and chondroitin are useless....but you definitely have to try and fine out the bioavailability of the active ingredient, i.e. how much of the glucosamine is free or unbound to other substance for the horse to absorb!! Cheaper products tend to have less available substance in them so are less use....sadly you do often get what you pay for.

We buy in our joint supplement frm the Netherlands now...EquiHY120 and EquiHY1204S....not cheap but seem to be effective.

Problem is they are used in combination with other treatments often...
