other horse forums

I used to be a regular on Yourhorse but, it seems to have died. The only regular forum questions is some kitchen company advertising all the time. If you post something on there, you are lucky to have one answer. So, yes, I am looking for other sites as well.

May be a sort of Darwinism at work here with H&H and Facebook contact ever growing and the previous smaller boards shrinking?

In the old days New Rider did just what it said. As a new rider in my sixties, I could not have learned to ride without the help of people on New Rider, including two or three BHS AIs who were themselves helping elderly relatives continue to ride.
Thanks to NewRider too I had a wider education than in any riding school - Watched and learned from a great variety of clinics - was encouraged to watch everyone I could. What was ridiculed as fluffy bunny on H&H was to me more like A levels -"Contrast and compare Monty Roberts and Parelli and consider the possible eventual consequences for horse and rider".
As boards shrink they become more of a social club, and a narrower and less reliable source of from which to get knowledgeable opinions of tack, training methods and almost everything else which is why some of us come on this forum as well.
Trot on Line was a spin off from New Rider when New Rider introduced subscriptions. But New Rider may still be unrivalled in helping new adult riders who are struggling with bad or bullying or innappropriate teaching in UK riding schools. It would benefit from a fresh inflow of experienced riders and teachers to volunteer guidance.
H&H is sometimes criticised for unkind replies, but believe me that is nothing compared to what may actually happen on the ground in highy regarded riding schools. I left my first school when the RI declared loudly in a crowded bar that I was so ignorant, it was not worth her answering my question. She smirked. But it dawned on me that after 2 years as her pupil, my ignorance was her responsibility rather than mine.
All riding internet forums, whatever their limitations and whoever controls them, proved a life saver for a vulnerable older beginner like me and depend on input from riders like yourselves.

Please tell me that you apprised her of that fact before you left.

I like Horse Gossip, its more showing based which I like, lots of very interesting characters, really good debates and useful information. It is disappointing sometimes though when you ask a question and get no or few replies - I think its easy for people to forget that they all had to start somewhere!

I can't find it - do you have to pay??

Now I am trying to work out who on IHDG you are/were!
Like everything else you have to be selective, and disregard those who buy into the theory but don't really have much of a clue, but I have made good friends through there and also gained a lot of useful info - I first heard about magnesium deficiency, hind gut ulcers, Centered riding and a whole load of other stuff on there.
Any group of many and various lines of experience is worth being part of, you don't have to subscribe to allowing your equines to have no boundaries.

I was Tuppence and in that particular thread I was lot less argumentative and rude than several longer term members, who remain to this day. I made very sure of my facts and then stated them, which was percieved as 'rudeness'.

And of course it was 'were' I wouldn't have dreamed of trying to beat the system to return <whistles>

I remember IHDG before you had to sign in to post. Some of the troll posts were very entertaining! I also remember the old BHS forum which was very good.

I think message boards are generally much quieter these days, a lot of people seem to use Facebook Groups instead. I like message boards myself but I too use Facebook Groups more these days
