Other people riding your horse....public liability

Hi all, I'm currently unable to ride for probably 6 to 9 months whilst I recover from some surgery. There are several people at our yard who have kindly offered to ride my horse in the meantime, but I'm a little worried about the insurance implications. We don't have a school so they would be hacking out along roads and bridle paths.

My horse is very well-behaved in all circumstances, he's an old boy who has hacked around this area for 10 years and knows it like the back of his hoof so I wouldn't anticipate any problems, but if there was an accident, for example involving traffic or a rider injury, would I be liable for damages?

I have BHS gold membership, but I believe that covers me rather than the horse, and if he is under someone else's control he won't be covered?

Any advise gratefully received, thanks.

BHS gold membership covers your horses for public liability regardless of who's riding them, as long as the person riding is doing so with your consent. It does not cover someone else riding for accident/injury so I would recommend that any potential riders have their own accident insurance.

So is this bit below, from that link, the bit that means anyone riding/handling your horses with your permission and not for financial reward is covered? If so, as an extension do I have to pay extra for this cover?

Extensions
1) Authorised Users’ Indemnity.
The Master Personal Liability Insurance to use the Assured’s horse or horse drawn vehicle or a horse or horse drawn vehicle normally in the Assured’s custody while using such horse or horse drawn vehicle only subject always to General Condition (5).

Thanks everyone, I always thought that other people were covered with my permission, but was told by someone else that this is not the case. The policy wording is not entirely straightforward, so thought I'd double check on here.

I wish they would word these policies so that us ordinary people can understand them easily, or maybe they do and I'm just a bit thick!

Although the Key Benefits (SEIB document), link posted by JustKickOn is woolly in that it mentions an Extension (1) for Authorised Users, if you look at page 4 of the full terms and conditions:

https://www.bhs.org.uk/membership/types-of-memberships/gold-membership (click on Public Liability Full Terms and Conditions)

then you find a paragraph which says:
"This Insurance shall also provide indemnity to any person given permission by the Insured to use the Insured's Horse or Horse drawn vehicle normally in the Insured’s custody."
