OTT Thoroughbred

www.irishracing.com is a mine of info...if you search her name on it and then click into the races you can find out where she was positioned through races etc. how is she loose jumping? perhaps it would help to get her confident in herself jumping loose and progress from there?!

I would love to loose jump her but the yard owner has banned it, so maybe I'll take her to a different school, which in itself would be good experience for us I suppose.

MrsD123 you have the patience of a saint! She's had her teeth done - they had to be filed down with power tools - so that's ok. Maybe more groundwork is the way to go to get her used to poles, I just enjoy riding her too much!! When she's not being bonkers she's a joy! One tactic I tried is to do all our hacks in walk - she became very calm out hacking. Of course, then I spoiled it by asking for trot and canter, and she got very buzzy and spooky again! So it's back to strolling around the south downs... I always carry a schooling whip, to school, hack and jump. We have our safe hacks that I do alone, and if on the rare occasion I have company we do the scarier hacks. She's only on hi-fi lite and has a magnesium/yeast supplement which I think has helped her at home, but need something stronger for parties, so will look into ProKalm. She only comes in when she has the farrier/vet etc because she hates being in.

Another thing I meant to mention earlier is the importance of routine aswell. Racing yards are in general very structured in the daily routine and what is ridden in what lot etc. Perhaps what she is finding so stressful particularly at shows is the change to her daily routine so you could try to structure your home schooling to encompass a routine that you can then utilise at shows so that while there is a change of venue, the plan stays the same.
