My ottb is has had a long break over winter and is now coming back into work. He has ad lib hay and is out during the day, in at night. I want to put him on a proper feed to build his muscle up (alongside proper work) and help him gain condition, but without adding too much fizz. At the moment he's quite lean

Current set up:
- dengie cool condition chaff x2 a day

Proposed new set up: (x2 a day)
- dengie cool condition chaff
- A&P soothe and gain
- 50-100g linseed
- Spillers ulca balancer

Any advice on this new set up would be appreciated and whether others have had success in putting condition on their horses with soothe and gain, or if there's anything better out there?

Not a OTTB, but our ex racing Standardbred who runs lean is fed on spillers daily balancer, topspec ulcerkind, and I've just added a scoop of baileys outshine to his feeds also, as his workload is increasing now eg regular 20-30km pleasure rides.

Supplement-wise he also has the RDA of a vitamin E and Selenium supplement and some salt.

I had my boy on soothe and gain and was feeding 3 Stubbs scoops dry weight a day. It didn’t help with putting the weight on that well unfortunately! I have found the Red Mills feeds best for condition for my horse

The mix, I think they’re pretty much the same thing though! You just need to give more of the mix as the nuts are more dense.
How much of it do you feed? The recommended feed guide on the back of the bags seem a bit silly! I've started him on the cubes, but as we're just introducing them he's only having 1/4 scoop per feed twice a day to start with

2 Stubbs scoops per day ( 1 x breakfast/dinner) of Allen & Page Fast Fibre + 3/4 Stubbs scoop per day of Cushcare + all the haylage mine can eat (plus good grass) is putting weight on my poor doer 20 year old TB very fast. I have never seen him this fat in his life (he is not actually "fat" atm but he is for him).
