He certainly knew what it was all about this time, but he was still very well behaved, no squeaking, walking beautifully at heel and looking into the cover he was told to

Had his first proper flush too.

Then at the end of the last drive he was allowed off again. Busy hunting through the cover behind where the Guns had been stood when he flushed a pricked pheasant, caught it and fetched it back to me (well after he had rearranged it, because the wings were over his eyes and he couldn't find me!) then left it with me and carried on hunting

Finished and walked back to the game wagon with him at heel, off the lead and me carrying 'his' pheasant

Did some beautiful turns on the whistle too (as well as ignoring it completely a few times!!)

It was also my OH's very first time out beating

Two photos, he was very well behaved here as we were waiting for the drive to start and his lead was just looped over my thumb stick whilst I told him to stay so I could take his picture

Yippee - good boy! He looks very grown-up and sensible

Henry got his first grown-up dummy for Christmas, although it has not actually been out of the house yet

It's like a switch gets flicked when he hears the Guns and realises what's happening, he goes all serious and grown up (although not any better behaved!!)

I am very proud! Especially as his bird wouldn't have been found otherwise and it meant my Mum won the sweep

Oooh doesn't he look fab! Well done Otto.
I am getting our first spaniel in Feb. She will be my husband's gun-dog. Neither of us have ever trained a dog to the gun before so we will be searching for advice and tips (OH will be going to training sessions with her). Make sure your PMs aren't full - I might well be asking you for help as you seem to have Otto very well trained!
