I got a painful reminder why we wear gloves when riding last night!

Having tacked up, I couldn't find my gloves. They are normally kept inside my riding hat inside the tack locker across the stables. I decided to ride without as I was worried about Patches being tacked up whilst I went in the house to look for them.

Big mistake!

Reins kept rubbing against my wedding and engagement rings. I took them off whilst riding but a blister developed which then burst.

Hurt like hell to put wedding ring back on, but Duncan would've been upset to see that I'd taken it off, never mind if I'd said I wasn't going to put it back on.

Think I should've left it off though. Finger swollen and there's no way I can actually get it off now, even if I could bear to get it over my finger.

Stupid Patches (human one) and naughty Patches (four legged one) for pulling on the reins.

ouch poor you that looks really sore! i never ride with rings since i fell off and fractured my finger they had to cut my ring off a very swollen finger it hurt like hell!

I must admit, I do often take mine off and hide them in my pocket. I put them back on when I get home.

Duncan's never taken his wedding ring off though and is quite upset that I will whip mine off as and when it suits me. He thinks it's bad luck for some reason.

Soppy bloke! Not caused us any bad luck so far.

I could kick myself though. I never ride without gloves on a hack. Occasionally I'll school for half an hour without them if it's really sunny (and I don't want white hands) but we were out for over two hours last night. Naughty Patches kept trying to eat the fast growing hedges...hence pulling on the left rein.
