OUCH!!! Has your horse ever ..................KICKED YOU!!!!!

the little mare i have just sold managed to kick me twice within the 1st 2 days of her being at my yard 1st day she managed an almighty shot on my bum very accurat then the next day my knee the second time i had a pot of sudocrem in my hand so that went flying at her bum and she never tried it again.

i have been kicked in my bum by a pony at my old riding school aswell but plenty of padding in that area so i can cope lol

My horse has tried....several times. Never actually got me, couple of times when I've been trying (and failing) to catch her, and a few times when I have been trying to get her to move over or touching her belly

The latter two times, she was appropriately kicked back

Ouch .. there are some very painful stories on here!
I was kicked on the shin by a 17.2hh Shire X a few years ago when picking out his feet. I was lucky I didn't break my leg but when I got home I thought I'd better put some ice on it. There was no ice in the freezer nor any frozen peas so I had to use a large bag of frozen prawns! A very expensive kick.
I still have the lump on my leg several years later.

..... I have just eaten some frozen prawns but suppose I could have used them to draw out the bruise.... I will look for the peas .... I am so sorry to hear that some of you have lasting evidence of your injuries!

Hope that Bacardi is getting to the pain.

I set myself up perfectly for the only kick I've ever had last winter - brought horse in after I came home from work on cold wet night - me tired and on automatic pilot went straight up behind him quickly as he was eating his dinner to undo fillet string of his rug. He got a fright and bam - caught me on the thigh. Frozen peas all around that night.

Sort of a textbook "how to get yourself kicked by a horse" as this guy is very defensive when he is eating. There is no limit to my skills!

i think my horror story tops it- when i were 13 i looked after 3 ponies, jack, merlin and cracker, all good as gold. one day i was spraying stuff on merlins legs 2 make some bot eggs come off more easily, when a fly landed between his backlegs, he cow kicked- caught me in the mouth! i lost 2 teeth and another two were embedded in the roof of my mouth, shattering my pallet and bruising my eye socket! ive now got 2 false teeth (the other 2 were saved), a permenant retainer and no feeling in the front of my mouth so i cant define hot from freezing! it woznt merlins fault though, i was riding him bareback the next day

This was my kick at the very top of my thigh. It was done by the one horse I would never have even considered would kick me! He never EVER kicks, but it was totally my fault, I walked behind him as another horse thundered out of a stable and he kicked out very hard thinking it was a horse I guess. He looked so guilty and apologetic though. Its the shock thats the worst bit, I sat in a heap thinking "OMG my hips broken" because thats what it feels like for a few minutes! Luckily never been kicked otherwise in all the years!

I've always been very proud about not getting into situations where I can get kicked but after feeling shitty about work for the last three months I got kicked twice in one week, the first was on my birthday so feeling particularly grumpy about being at work and postal strike so no pressies or cards, I was asked to clip a difficult horse on my own and it booted me on my right knee so hard that I had tears in my eyes from the pain and anger. A few days later a colt lashed out at me with his front feet when I went in to feed him and got me on my right knee again. All my boss could say was 'has your leg got magnets in it!'
Got my foot broken when I was 15 by a horse lashing out and trying to kick another horse and had managed to avoid horses feet since then up until now 10 years on!
My friend has a really cool picture of her back where she fell off a racehorse and its foot got caught in her back protector. So the horse went nuts and tried to kick it's self free, break my friend's pelvis in the process. The bruising was so bad that the A&E department at Bury St Ed sent her home saying she was fine but after a few days of not being able to get out of bed work took her to Addenbrookes where they found the two inch crack in her pelvis!

any horse aggressive enough to kick a person more than once (i.e. repeated kicks) is in attack mode and needs a bullet. i adore horses, i make huge excuses for them, but that needed a bullet.

Disagree with that comment. It totally depends on the circumstances! Horses are flight animals - for example, if you accidentally corner a horse and frighten him then he will kick like hell to get out of that situation. I think we all forget sometimes that horses aren't machines, they are well renowned for being unpredictable. Yes, ok if a horse comes tearing across a field to someone and begins laying into them then of couse it has serious issues but that doesn't happen very often now does it!

Haha oh yes, well not my horse but one of our liveries bloody hugely chunky monkey polish thing kicked out as i tried to move him round and caught me in that bit between the knee cap and knee. Ooo it hurt soooo much.

I had excatly same on my right thigh just above the knee, it happened when i was clipping my mare's quarters! god that hurts like hell, she kicked to the bone... the bone didn't break but it hurts so much, i could hardly walk!!! but as i was so angry i resumed clipping the mare even she didn't like it, and i was crying so much due the pain i was in! It took long long time for the bruising to go.. first was the imprint of the shoe showed up, as the bruising went there was yellow shoe imprint!

It was out of character, She was a Anglo Arab. She's now in horsey heaven...

yes it's always very painfull! i have been kicked in the head and if it was an inch closer to my eye i would have been dead! i was very angry with him for a long time but then i just thought hey these things happen and you've got to move on so i did n im fine now!

having seen eaglestones bruise yesterday, and taken a photo, im trying to convince her to let me post a piccie! loving the siggie eaglestone, i recognise your riding partner in the photo hehe
