Went out for a ride with a friend today, had a nice time until we got a few minutes from home.

we were going up a slight hill when Lady tripped up (think she tripped over the pavement edge) she went down on her knees, thought i was coming off then but managed to stay on.

Lady always wears knee boots as she is always tripping, as she is far to noisey, anyway she somehow managed to pull one of her knee boots down to her fetlock, she hates things around her fetlocks so combined with the shock of just going down on her knees, she had a meltdown.
Rearing, plunging and spinning until i finally came out of the side door and hit the deck, which was right in the middle of the road, i jumped up to see her trotting off round the corner without a thought for me.

With it being such a nice day everyone was in their gardens, coming out and pointing where she had gone, which was in the direction of home, a very nice man offered me a lift to find her, but when we got over the hill someone had caught her, checked her over and she only has a scuff to her hoof, so got back on to ride her home, which was only about 400 yards. But needed to do it or i might not have ridden her for a good while, best to get straight back in the saddle.

I had a headache for a while but have taken tablet and it has now gone, i landed on my back and then my head hit the road, thank goodness for a good riding hat.
And for some reason my ankle hurts, but i have no idea how that is as i cant remember anything happening to it.

It all happens so fast when you fall off.
Has this happened to anyone else? Please feel free to tell your stories, so i can feel better about myself lol

Hah. Don't need a horse to hit the deck.
Fell up the stairs this morning, throwing two cups of coffee over new carpet and hitting step with thigh. Then promptly passed out.
OH only concerned with state of carpet!!!!
And I missed my HT today

Ive seen a few pics on here of peoples horses who have gone down on their knees, and the mess it has made, since then i have always put knee boots on her.

Rolls that it a typical man!!
and how did you manage to pass out??

i have a horrible story about a pony i was riding last year....was a 4 year old, new forest. we were having a gentle trot along a bridleway, me on youngster, ex on my horse, when pony fell over, not sure how, happened a bit too quickly, went down onto his knees, and continued to rollover on side, luckily i managed to scramble out of the way after which he got up and walked off a bit, luckily not to far, both of us were covered in cuts and bruises, and felt pretty dizzy for a while, had to get someone to come and pick pony up and walk back and take me back home! its not nice, i cant help but worry about them falling now when im riding!

not a lot bothered him! i think he only remembered it whilst he had the cuts to remind himself! had a flap of skin hanging on his shoulder, but it healed really well, and no scar to show for it. he did scrape all along his nose tho which was ob quite sore for him, he didnt want his dinner than evening!

i had a bad fall this week jumping, and it was the first in 3 years so it was quite a shock. Im covered in bruises and have afew tender ribs not to mention an unsightly graze on my face. I cant imagine falling off on the road, i would be terrified! I fell off on a soft surface and didnt get up for ages cause i was badly winded, but coming off on concrete would have finished me off i think! Hope your ok! It happens to the best of us

I had a nasty one on the road in the summer. Was hacking out a 17.3hh showjumper who was normally an absoloute star. We got caught in sudden heavy rain and were trying to get home, although already saturated. Coming through the village the water was running down the road like a river but he was fine with it until we came past a drain. He walked past it and then all of a sudden leapt up in the air and bronchoed, slipped as he landed and scared himself and went absolutley crazy leaping and bucking and I went flying. I remember thinking this is really going to hurt, and remember seeing him trot up the road towards home with a lady running out of her house after him. I then realised my mouth was full of blood. Checked I had all my teeth (which I did) and staggered up the road in excruciating pain ffrom my head and shoulder and couldn't see. Refused an ambluance from a chap who came to help me because I needed to check horsey was alright so he gave me a lift to the yard to discover his owner was with him and he was fine....at that point I gave into the pain, accepted an ambulance and had a nice night in hospital!

Nothing was broken, had severe soft tissue damage in my arm and shoulder, had bitten through my lip (which consequently got infected) cut my chest badly, and had serious concussion. Oucho!!

Ouch! Lots of ouches

OP, just watch out for concussion if you hit your head! Don't be on your own this evening and tonight. If you feel sick, or can't stand the light, get someone to take you to hospital for a check over.

Hugs.

I couldn't actually believe that we I had my accident I literally couldn't string a sentence together, I was aparently talking about plastic cutlery and barbeques to the nurses so my friend tells me, yet they were gonig to send me home!

Sounds like a lot of owwies to me!!

OP please take care and plenty of arnica and painkillers and a nice warm bath - it will take a day or two for it to catch up with you! and as you hit your head on the road you should really replace your hat now. I know its expensive but at least they can be be replaced - your head can't.

I had was once on a pony that tripped at a gallop. Still can't remember anything about it after setting off accross the field thinking to myself 'this isn't a good idea' as ponio was only about 13.2 and we were with four horses of 16hh +. I knew he would go mad trying to keep up with the others and had asked the others to hold back.

Apparently someone turned to look back to see where I was, saw pony trip, saw me going flying and they all pulled up and went back for me. I was talking complete crap, going on about how beautiful it was around there and what a lovely colour the sky was! We walked back to the stables and they took me to hospital where I was kept in with concussion. I couldn't remember my name or anything on admission.

Pony was fine!

Mrselle - that is exactly what i worry about now, horse falling at a gallop! i could see it could easily end very badly! glad you had no long term damage

lol.. would def say have a nice long bath in the sink, followed by someone who might feel sorry for u taking you out for dinner (was my bf at the time!)

Owww hope you feel better after a warm bath and arnica.
Reminds me of a slim riding school pony called Jeremy, about 30 years ago, who at a certain junction on a hack, two weeks running, managed to deck me in the middle of the road by pretending he was following the rest as we turned to the right (left was home) and suddenly bucking then spinning back round for home. Didn't break my arm even though I landed on it both times, but I couldn't write for a few days after the second landing as the whole underside was so bruised I couldn't rest it on the desk (was mid Alevel revision).

Hope you feel better soon

I had a fall this week, I HATE SJ, I love watching it!
My boss at the RS had someone coming to view a 13.2hh welshie araby type mare, she's gorgeous (dun and white)
They were viewing her for their son to do PC triathlons on.
I had a practice on Monday,
Bearing in mind I HATE Sj'ing

She whacked the jumps up to 2 ft 9

I went round a few times popping over them,
Next minute low and behold, I forgot to ask her to take off

She went in too deep trying to get us out of trouble, but she knocked her knee on the pole and we both went flying!
I opened my eyes and I was underneath her

I got straight back on and boss made me go over same jump again, boss was in shock, she jumped the height of the wings!!

My back was killing the next day! BUT the people came to see her and were impressed with my riding
