Ouch I hurt

Feeling sorry for myself as my horse spooked and stood on my big toe this morning. Got on and rode cos didnt think much of it at the time. The throbbing got worse and I took my boot off after my ride to see a blood soaked sock. Doesnt look much, think I may lose my nail yuk but its bloomin killing and wont stop bleeding. Trip to the walk in centre, dressed, tetnus (sp) jab and a couple of glasses of wine to help numb the pain but its not working

Sorry you are in pain. I remember when my mum's horse managed to break away from his tie ring, and somehow the top of my thumb got sliced off. The constant throbbing was absolute agony, so you have my sympathy!

Horses eh? The only times my Mum has been to A&E (so far...!) have been for:
1) Fractured wrist - fell off horse.
2) Severe leg laceration - horse spooked & trod on her
3) Stitches in face - two lacerations. Whacked in the side of the face by trailer ramp door.

The only times I have been to A&E (so far...!):
1) Concussion - knocked out after a nasty fall - same hack as Mum's fractured wrist.
2) Thumb sliced off - see above.

Why do we have them?......

Mad arent we, Im a regular in summer for antibiotics as I have allergic reactions to horse fly bites and they seem to love me! I thought I remembered this awful throbbing, when I was a kid my 'bombproof' pony ran off as I was taking her head collar off in the field, only I was attached by my finger to the buckle and got dragged a short way. Had a week in hospital after an op to pin my finger and ET was on at the cinema at the time. Yes I got all the jokes.
It is the throb, throb thats awful and although Im not squeemish at all, when I think of my toe I feel sick lol.

Ouch! The ET injury also sounds particularly nasty!

Don't know why we do it, but things definitely hurt more in my twenties & thirties than they did in my teens.

If I reeled off all my horse related accidents, I should feel lucky to be alive! A particular favourite was early this year when my horse was being a pig to load. He suddenly came into the trailer & the front breech was up (to stop him rushing through) - couldn't get under it quick enough. As I turned round to get under it, he ran into me full force from behind - ramming my ribcage into the bar.

We live & learn I guess. All part of the joys of horse ownership. Hope the wine numbs the throbbing enough to give you a good nights sleep. Not wanting to depress you, but I dread how it will feel in the morning!

Wow, you're pretty brave in my books to carry on riding with that! I'm a right wuss. I moaned when my toe got stood on and all i got was a bit of a bruised nail. I did want to carry on riding with a badly broken foot though. Maybe when it counts us horsey folk are tough lol

Well we have to be really don't we?

And alcoholics- more wine, i agree. Hope it feels better soon!

And FWIW, when -I- think of your toe i feel sick too lol.

lol, think it was numb for a while after he stood on it so I didnt feel it throbbing for a while. I was scared to take my sock off though when I seen the blood.

Thanks for the vote of confidence for the morning as Ive got 8 to muck out etc tomorrow.... ouch! The oldest horse on the yard walked faster than me tonight when I was bringing in lol
Bet the trailer ordeal was scary, my horse did something similar when I was practicing loading him or more like trying to get him to stay in the trailer, I let the front breast bar down and he shot forward squashing me against the front exit as he leapt out of the trailer. At that point non horsey hubby walked off mumbling 'that horse is gonna kill you'.
We definately must be mad.
