Donkey is not a small horse, Donkey is a heavy horse as I found out last night when she put her full weight on my big toe

Drew blood, it is slightly swollen and is very hot and painful - could it be broken? and rather than spend hours at A&E am I right that there is pretty much nothing they can do about it??

Yes they wont do anything - Take some painkillers, put some ice on it and sometimes strapping a splint like a looly stick to the bottom to straighten it out will make it feel better thats what my mum did when she broke her finger.

Hope it gets better soon!

When Cropi jumped in the corale and landed on my big toe I ended up at A&E as I could not put any weight on it. She had broken it in 5 places

they just strapped it up and gave me crutches. I was not allowed to put any weight on it at all. My toe/s went black within minutes and the swelling was pretty impressive!!

If you can not stand on it maybe best to get it checked out?

Another vote for getting it checked out here- if it is broken then best to check everything is where it should be to heal ok.

Silly donkey! (or is that silly SSM?!

Fingers crossed it is not broken, I think HHO MUST have fulfilled it's annual broken bone quota by now?????

Youch!!!!!!!!!! I can walk, well limp and managed to get my wellies on this am to turn out - though I admit to being terrified of them treading on it

When I broke my finger, well broke it in three places and semi severed it after hubby dropped a rock on it - they completely strapped it up in it's own little house!!!!

SSM pick a time when AE is empty ish (sunday morning about 8 am is a good one) then go and get it checked. You need to make sure bones are in roughly hte right place so it doesn't cause you long term problems and to make sure you've done no nerve damage. Just a precaution but some finger/toe breaks need a bit more than strapping up. If you are one of those and don't get it checked you could be in for years of grief.

Ouch ouch ouch to your finger

hope your hubby felt VERY bad!!!

I could not get ANY shoes on my foot at all, I had to put a flip flop on and even then I couldn't put in on properly. It was a good 2-3 weeks before I could even get my muckers on
mad.gif
mucking out was a nightmare!!!

It might still be a good idea to get it checked out A&E should not be too busy at the moment

Get it checked, I broke my finger and thought oh they can't do anything (I could wiggle it and it didn't grind, bl**dy hurt though), but I went anyway, I had broken it, dislocated the tip and snapped a tendon, had to have it set and put in a special splint for 6 weeks!

Breeze on the first day I had her cracked my big toe - slammed down her hoof point first directly onto it - I did the silent scream jumping up and down in corner of stable and she did eyes on stalks - said she would back to starving and being overworked (she was rescued) if she did it again - she didn't.

Anyway, A&E now do nothing for broken toes - they now don't even strap them up to the next good toe as they used to do. Ditto for broken ribs - no strapping up. My toe was twice the size and went purple and was sore for a long time.

Suggest you ice it and try some arnica for the bruising and a large drink for you.

I tend to wear the mountain horse boots with steel toe caps - although they are heavy, they are very comfortable. When you have two large chaps like I do, toes are needing all the help they can get. Luckily for me Cairo is very careful, and Chancer is only now occasionally forgetting where his feet go.

Hope your toe recovers soon.

Oh no! Naughty donkey

Sounds broken to me. I broke my big toe years ago - they just strapped it up. The pain went after about a week and half.
If you are concerned get it checked out - can recommend Grantham - tell them J sent you - they know me well

Hope you feel better soon

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh poor you and naughty Donkey....

When I broke my toe they just strapped it to the next one, that was after they had re-broke it

, because it was crossed over the next toe, very painful and the colour was rather dramatic.....

i broke my little toe this time last year after otto stood on it and twisted round. went to A&E after a few hours, the nurse looked at it said if it stops hurting after 6 weeks its just bruised, if its still hurting after 14 weeks it was broken! very helpful, and it hurt for months and even to this day is twice the size it used to be.. the swelling and bruising was pretty impressive though. i guess it depends which area you are in as to what they do, at our local hosp they dont do anything

Pony jumped onto mine while avoiding a puddle when i was 14.... hurt like mad but never did anything about it...

Fell down some stairs a couple of years ago and thought i had busted my ankle (i hadnt)!! BUT they told me i had broken my little toe and that the bones had never rejoined!! I can pull my little toe all the way backwards now!!
