Hi all.

Had my first fall in 7 years yesterday and thought I'd got away lightly...until I woke up this morning! My right side is stiff and I have a bruised backside 😩

Anyone got any tips on unstiffening so I can move slightly better tomorrow?

Thanks

Sorry to hear about the fall. It happens sometimes I guess! Try filling a bath up with icy cold water (literally put ice in it) and run a hot shower at the same time. Now sit in the bath for a few minutes and then Hop into the hot shower straight away. It's going to sting but this is what all the top athletes do to help their injuries. Spend a few minutes In the shower then hop back in the icy bath. Keep doing this for as long as possible but try not to run out of water! Hope this helps!

Sorry to hear about your fall, I've realised now as I've got older (25) even falling off onto a soft landing hurts a lot for a few days after and I'm achey!

I'd suggest what everyone else has said, nice warm bath and anti inflammatory's :)

Older! Go and stand in the corner and hang your head in shame.

If you are older, that makes me positively ancient - and I refuse to accept that.

Seriously, always the warm bath and anti-inflammatories ASAP.

Now that it's set in, still the warm bath and anti-inflammatories today, and the arnica.

I mean older as in the sense of when I was 10 I didn't care about falling off and would bounce right back. Now even at my age I ache for days lol!
I landed on my bum on a XC jump the last time I fell off a couple of months ago, and that hurt for days.

Lol didn't work that way for me as a kid I fell off broke my arm, landed in stringy nettles and knocked myself out! Last fall in adulthood (28) I have managed to roll away with just a cut up arm. With 'age' I have got better at falling off (if that's a thing)! I find a day or too after any kind of accident is when you notice all the pulled muscles and stiffness. I would take it easy a couple of days and maybe try some arnica I used it recently for something else and was pleasantly suprised that it actually did seem to work

The way I fell was apparently 'better' so it could have been a lot worse (think bolting horse, jump, skidded, lost stirrup, bolted to a corner of the school, skidding to a stop near the fence). It looked to everyone else I was going over the front, bouncing off the fence and then into the nettles but managed to steady backwards enough to come off the side.

I had worse falls as a kid but the pain seemed to be less? Maybe I've just shut it out :)

I will definitely be taking it easy....but will be getting back on the horse tomorrow - maybe no sitting trot though....

Put some Epsom Salts in a nice warm bath and relax in it.

Apply the anti inflammatory/pain relieving gel in the morning/after your hot/cold bath or shower - you know the one...the joy of movement..it does help.

Keep moving - even if it's only slowly. If you keep still, you'll stiffen up (believe me, I've hit the deck often enough to know this!) Echo arnica, warm bath etc etc
