Frodo and I went back to Hunters Equestrian today for our 3rd competition - still just doing walk and trot tests, unfortunately canter is still far too exciting for my ex-racing pony! He has been doing some lovely work at home (by his standards) and my instructor has commented how much he has improved after 4 lessons, so today's aim was to replicate that nice feeling in ONE movement per test.

The first test was indoors and I was really, really pleased - his best test to date, and although there is still a huge amount to improve on I was delighted with him, we even scored a couple of 7s :p :) We came 4th out of 7, and got our first 'proper' placing after our 'fake' first place last time out :D

But oh dear, the second test was just awful - I thought he was bad last time out, he was truly appalling today and spent most of his test jogging with his hindquarters stuck into the centre of the arena :( He was so busy gawping at the other horses in the warm-up he didn't listen to me at all, I was gutted - you win some you lose some I guess!

So a learning experience, it is all mileage under our belt and I know that the more we compete the less exciting it will be. A little pic of us in the warm up:

Well done! Hunters is quite a spooky venue on the whole, and I know a lot of horses that back off big time in the indoor, so a lot of positives to take away!

Thanks very much for the positive comments :) I am feeling quite 'meh' tonight about the second test, but I suppose that is horses - they aren't machines, and do what they want rather than what we want :)

I got some good news tonight that I am able to loan a lorry for the next 9 months, so I am intending to be out EVERY weekend to get him used to competing!
