Our first Novice!!

Good luck and don't let the green eyed monsters get you down! Currently dealing with the same kind of thing myself from someone I considered a friend and I know how disheartening it can be if you let it. Lots of good advice on the thread for the day, most of all enjoy it 😊

Thank you very much! People can be so awful. I just wish everyone could be happy for everyone else! I'm too busy with my own horse to worry about what everyone else is doing with theirs lol!

Since I started this thread I've gone from being super nervous to really excited so hopefully I will still feel like this on Sunday!! :)
 
Me too, couldn't care less what people are doing if they and their horses are happy. Looking forward to your report thread 😉 I'm sure it will be a great day
 
Trakehner92, do the vile girls on your yard go out and compete themselves?

I know we have a couple like that on our yard - however they are all mouth and no trousers as none of them ever go out and actually compete their horses.

Very frustrating, but just remember, you are going to kick ass!!

In all fairness one of them does ... but only as and when it suits them. She has a ready made horse which is great and good on her for being able to afford one but I stumbled across my horse a good few years ago and felt bad for him so rehomed him, re broke him and schooled him. He isn't the easiest to work with haha ... He's hot headed and highly strung but at least I'm there every evening schooling and having lessons (while the rest of them stand and watch and talk about me lol!). And as it happens he turned out to be a super star and has done everything I've ever asked of him. I cant remember the last time one of them had a lesson.

One of them has recently moved up a level in dressage so I know when the news is heard I will get ... "you're only doing I because I've moved up!".... Which is not the case lol.

In all fairness my instructor has talked me in to it because there's only one prelim and we've learned all the movements (well we can manage them at home anyway! ) .

I'm not really bothered what they think/say .... We will go and give it a good go and if its a disaster I'll pray that the prelim goes good haha!

Well, they sound like prats so I wouldn't waste a minute of your time worrying about what they say / think.

It's lovely having a horse that does it all for you I'm sure, but you can guarantee that you will feel so much better knowing that it's you who has got your horse to this level, not someone else. Such a better sense of achievement.

Exactly! This is what I always tell myself. I could go out and buy another horse tomorrow if I really wanted (mind you the budget for the mortgage would shrink a bit haha!) but I enjoy learning new things and teaching my lad new things.

I'm in the right mind set for the test now .... I'll just make sure I pack some gin/wine/vodka in the wagon tomorrow evening haha!
 
So I have my times ... afternoon ones so plenty of time to get ready and relax. The horse is bathed and tucked up. Cleaned my tack. Just to polish my boots and pack the box tomorrow and we are good to go ! Feeling very nervous now !!

So everyone .....

Are you ready? ! We made it to dressage. The prelim went well. I was a little tense which rubbed off on Harry but we came out with a personal best of 67.29% absolutely over the moon. 7th place I think but it was a huge class. The novice came and I was really worried but as soon as we entered the ring I was more determined than ever. The dreaded canter transitions were perfect. The medium strides were good.

Came out with ...... 65.76% and a very respectable 4th place !!!! Both big classes. I'm so proud. Onwards and upwards now !!

Thank you so much everyone. I'm so proud of us both. Can't wait for the next one !! My little show jumping horse is turning out to be a dressage star in the making !
 
Sorry I have been lurking on the thread all week as I felt I was reading my own life. I took my Trakhener boy out for our 1st Novice today. Didn't have as good a score as you and we were 9th/ 14 but I am buzzing as we were made to feel like Novice was way out of reach. So proud of my wacky traky and you should be too. He is stunning

That's really good well done !! I hate it when people put you down out of jealousy. Trakehners are the best. I bet you can't wait for the next one :) xx
 
My boy has made me love the breed. And he's changed a lot of people's opinions about Trakheners. He's not an easy ride but when it works I feel like I'm on top of the world.
Normally our 2nd test is a nightmare as he throws a strop about having to go back in but today he went better than the novice than the prelim. Clearly this is more his speed. Next one is at the end of the month so hoping our medium trot will be stronger by then
