Thank you to all those who gave advice last week about Pachesham, I weighed it all up and decided to go along on Saturday and see how it went. we entered the little 70cm class.

So, losts of firsts for this weekend I , having never used studs before -learned how to tap and plug the stud holes on friday evening, luckily horse was very obliging and all fine.

Headed off by myself around M25 on Saturday morning! nice and early, arrived with plenty of time - I thought! -- but by time we had course walked the XC , not much time to tack up and get ready for dressage, so no studs. but ground was pretty good thankfully.

baby horse was a superstar on the journey there and very chilled on arrival, bit tense initially warming up, but settled pretty well.

Prelim 13 test, went fine, nothing spectacular not the most accurately ridden by me - he a little bit onward bound at times and I forgot our walk trot walk on second centre line, but both canters happened in right places and on correct lead (unlike our dressage debut a few weeks ago) so I was actually really pleased with him. ended up with 34.4 including 2 penalties for error, so not bad.

judge must have liked him as comments were, "talented active horse" :-)) !!!!!

on to SJ - found out I had walked the wrong sj course, so quickly watched a few and in for our round, he jumped a lovely clear round (only the second complete SJ round he has ever done!) so again super pleased.

XC, he was just a superstar, I pointed and he jumped, no silliness or spooking at anything, at the water I slowed to a decent trot and he came back to walk down the slope in , but kept moving forward and once in trotted through and out !

so, a clear cross country I thought !! sadly it wasnt till looking at scoreboard later on, found out we, along with about 12 others, had inadvertantly jumped the wrong A element of the sunken road and were technically eliminated :-((

we had jumped down off the larger side which was part of the next class up , to be honest the flagging was not at all clear and I had stupidly missed the red flag between the two drop downs!

we would have been third, I think otherwise. but to all intents and purposes we jumped a double clear and had a fantastic day out, so can just put it down to experience and make sure I course walk more attentively next time!

i have to add that Pachesham is a lovely friendly venue and I will certainly consider going back over the winter for Dressage and SJ.

sorry for epic posts, my lovely friend, in between her own classes videod both my SJ and Dressage, so will try to post shortly.

That sounds like a super successful first ODE!

Look forward to seeing some pic's and vid's!

Just to add also, I did also meet you sister at Camp the other week and think i must have met her before, Finley is a lovely boy she works so hard with him! Do you have any plans to do the camps? next one is May i think

Hi, yes, Finlay is great isnt he, before she got him she completely lost her nerve jumping her huge great Arab, so it is lovely to see her enjoying it all again. not sure about camp yet, would love to come next year, just need to save up ..

Well done - obviously ready for step up to next level (no pun intended) if taking on tougher fences. You both went double clear which is a great result!

LOL, thank you ;-) height doesn't seem to be a problem for him to be honest, just need to get my bravepants on and put some mileage under our belt now I think. really hoping to get out next season at 90 and see how we go !! eeek!!

Well done. I've spent a good few years going the wrong way and forgetting courses but finally I'm learning how to do it all and it's coming together. It's a great feeling. :)
