So last week we went to our first serious competition. We did a practice test two weeks ago to see how she would handle being in new surroundings (she was a star btw!) and this week we went all the way from Lisbon to Ponte de Lima (almost 500km!) to enter the Portuguese Cup Qualifier. She is 5 and we competed at elementary level.
The heat was unbearable and our entry time was noon on both days. I thought I was going to die, out there in the sun.
Lorraine was fabulous once again and wasn't rattled by anything (not even the flags in the background or the very confusing warmup).
On the first day I didn't push her at all as I know she scores high enough even when just strolling around the arena and I don't want her to associate being out competing with stress. We scored 64,78%.
On the second day we had a little issue with timing - trainer didn't hear them calling me in so we had to rush taking the bandages off and me putting my jacket and hat on! I entered the arena all stressed out and as soon as I stopped at X my mind was blank and I couldn't remember the test! Well, at least I didn't get disqualified and even with two mistakes we scored 60% - with several 8's, if the mistakes weren't there the final score would've been in the near 70's.
But even though things didn't go perfect, I am so happy with my girl! She behaved super and the judges made some really nice remarks! Can't wait for the next test!
