Casper and I attended our very first show today. He's done some inhand with his previous owner but never a ridden show and I've never done any showing at all!
We did tack and turnout and ridden horse and then tried a clear round.
T&T - came 2nd (out of 2!) Casper was spotless when we left the yard but its a 3 1/2 mile hack to the show and due to the rain the entrance to the show field was just a mud puddle so we had no chance.
Ridden horse - 3rd (out of 3) Mr C was doing his best impression of a giraffe who couldn't possibly walk in a straight line - at home his flatwork is beautiful but this behaviour was to be expected - we had a lovely canter - correct leg every time but were placed below my friends horse who could not canter on the left rein??? Everyone watching said we should have been second but that perhaps the judge prefered the typical horse types that the other 2 were riding.
Then, clear round!!! Casper and I have never jumped a course - in fact I don't think Casper has ever seen a course before and...........we went clear!!! He was fabulous - seemed to settle when he had something to focus on and was turning on a sixpence and poping those jumps which were only 40 - 50 cm's but were very tight and included a spread - I couldn't have been more proud!
Yes he was fidgety and nappy and a bit spooky but he is still young (just turned 6) it was his first outing in a long time and his previous owner had two horses who always went together so he was really on his own this time.
I am just so proud of him - everyone keeps telling me what an angel he was considering how little experience he has.
I'm just so happy to have done my first show on my very own horse - it's such a lovely feeling!!!!
