Our new horse Basil

I know I'm not one of the more well known members on here but I just wanted to share some photos of my daughter's new horse that arrived today.
History
She has a very quirky 7yo ex racer mare that she's put her heart and soul into over the last 3.5 years and who has knocked her confidence many times but also taught her a lot too, she decided earlier this year that she would attempt to sell the mare if a suitable home could be found (not found one yet, she's had one viewing and was naughty as you like until the person went when she then proceeded to do everything perfectly)

She went horse shopping with a small budget to look for an older, more experienced horse that she could just take to local shows, HTs, xc schooling and stuff like that and after viewing a number of horses she decided on Basil.

He's 11, raced as a 2yo, worked in a riding school and probably done a few other things too, he appears to have a very laid back approach to life and we hope he'll enjoy being our horse. I haven't seen him yet but hope to have the pleasure of meeting him tomorrow (later today even)

He looks very sweet and laid back, he didn't happen to come from a yard in Winchfield did he? Looks and sounds very like one I was considering viewing? wish your daughter lots of chilled fun with him and good luck selling the crafty mare!!

I've not been too involved with his purchase so all I know is that the yard he came from was near to Fleet Services which is very near Winchfield so it's possible. Small world :D She tried 2 horses there, liked both, but chose him because she felt he would be a better fit for what she wanted.

I met him today and he was really so sweet, she did a little bit in the school with him and took him on a hack and it was all so wonderfully uneventful, we keep thinking "any minute now he's gonna do something bad" but he hasn't yet. He's quite chunky in the flesh, almost looks like some of the Appendix QHs you see over in the States. I think once he's in regular work and fit again he'll be cracking.

His diet is immense, oats sugar beet and chaff, we've never fed a horse oats before and tend to prefer simpler more fibre based feeds, so we'll probably wean him off that and on to what our quirky mare eats (Fibre cubes and chaff spring/summer and Calm N Condition and chaff in winter)
 
what a lovely lovely gorgeous man and my type sooooooo mmmmmmm gimmie gimmie - seriously your daughter deserves some pure fun with him and i really hope it all goes well an given what you said on last post it will do so wooo hoooo - have fun with him but mmmmmmm i may be lurking behind a bush one night lol only joking - lovely looking man go and enjoy :) xxxxxxx
 
Aww thank you, and thanks to everyone for your kind comments, am trying not to get besotted too quickly in case something goes wrong lol

Oh yes that is him then and I am now very jealous, especially as you say he is a quite chunky boy as that was the only reason I didn't go to try him thinking I may be a little too heavy as he looked rather fine in their photos!! Glad all going well, he really is rather gorgeous. Best wishes for the future x
 
What a handsome chap. Good luck with him :). I adore your statement 'I hope he enjoys being our horse', I'm sure he will be very happy indeed!
