Our new (rescue) pony...and the cruely of people. :(

Well done. He will be fab. I rescued a poor mare in Egypt 6 days ago in an appalling state. Broken eye socket, wounds, and emaciation. I gave the charity Continental Horse Rescue the money to rescue her from her cruel owner, and I am paying for her full livery costs via donations from friends and family. Her name is Sheba and she is the little bay mare in the pictures on their FB page. You cant rescue them all but what a difference it makes to the ones you can :)

this is fantastic, continental horse rescue are brilliant

Ive seen the facebook page, your an angel

You know when I read on here about the odd horse just like this lucky fella I really do wonder how many others are out there! Its so sad but you have really done a superb job already and I agree he has a lovely kind face. And I know my farrier would come out anytime and they are worth their weight in gold when they do.

Really good luck and what a kindly act...I just really cant understand why people have them if they dont like them??

I saw this little man on horsemart I think - was he advertised with a large person sat on him - and wearing a horrid baby blue bridle!?

Poor pony - so glad he has found a lovely new home with you. Some people are just wicked! I bet he is so happy out with food and fresh air bless him.

Awww...he's a real sweetie... Loving the perm effect on his forelock... :)

Would love to see how he progresses...

there are 1000's like him

i dont think you've rescused him tbh just lined the pocket of the arse-wipe you bought him from

Yep, there are... But this little guy is one less, my TB is another, a foal taken care of tonight courtesy of a FB drive... Gawd knows how many others because some hearts rule heads...

So money changes hands for some (my own included) in dire circumstances and that's somewhat repulsive... But it also kinda beats just leaving them to suffer IMO if you can afford to grab them and offer a better life...

I hope to be able to post some pics of him looking much improved in a short space of time, though it's going to take a while for him to be back to his full glory! :)

We went to see him because he was the sort we were looking for. He still is, just half the horse he should be. He was advertised cheaply and looked poor in his advert, so we weren't expecting perfection by any means, but we weren't expecting that. :( We didn't set out to buy a horse that was a complete state, we wanted a 14-14.3hh dark coloured cobby type who was sweet and safe to be around and hacks out alone.

Now this didn't come from a bin end dealer, he'd been where he was 'a few years' and had 'gone out for a ride saturday morning  and seems fine to ride whenever we've seen him'. This is from the non-horsey neighbours I was chatting with whilst my sister was in their house. The owner was very upset when we loaded him up to take him home. I think they bought a house with stables and a tiny paddock and filled them with horses. :(

Yes, they should have been paying us to take him away, we'd probably have bought him even if he wasn't anything like as advertised, he obviously may be different when he has any weight at all, but we're used to a bolshy big cob so that's fine. :) However, we couldn't leave him, from everything I had heard about the RSPCA (and as someone else said here) he's not bad enough to have been seized. As it is we've spoken to right people and can now say that they do have some money to feed and look after the other one, if it was money, or they may be given the knowledge to look after them properly, so maybe a good thing has happened for 2 horses, not just one.

On the plus side for him his feet *looked* dreadful, but our farrier was surprised by the hoof quality once he'd been trimed up. There's no infection anymore (though there obviously has been) and he believes the frogs should grow back ok, his feet just need to walk on different surfaces and be exposed to the air to stilmulate growth and healing.

He's going to be a monkey when he's feeling better. He ducked out of his stable yesterday whilst I was boiling the kettle and I found him with his head investigating the contents of the bin! :)

Well done OP. I would no doubt have done exactly the same. His life will now be 100 times better, and he will repay you over the comIng years by turning out to be a fab pony no doubt. He looks so sad but what a king face and eye, heartbreaking to see. We look forward to future posts on him, what are you gonna call him??

He looks a very similar type to my lad, bit smaller but same face and cheeky eye. ;) If he turns out to be half the rascel mine is you'll have loads of fun with him!!! I can't wait to see him with some meat and muscle, you'll have one cracking little pony then!!! Good for you for taking him on, I'm pretty sure I'd have done the same thing and even though it's not an offical 'rescue' you most certainly did save him from an uncertain fate.

Look forward to some spring photo's betting it will be a whole new picture then. :D

Just been directed to this thread from another that someone has put up after spotting the ad online.

Thank god you went along. All the ad photos are distressing - they hadn't even bothered to brush and clean him before taking photo's, or clipping him!

The money they spent on that dreadful bridle would have bought him a decent bag of feed. Also, what about the size of the rider? Poor little mite! :(

You can't change the world by saving one animal, but you can change the world for that one animal you saved x

that is a quote worthy of applause!
no we can't save them all but that doesn't mean we should stop helping the ones we can:)

Saxon is a fab name, i'm sure he'll grow into it lol:D

I too have been directed to this thread from the other one posted today and wanted to say well done to you. If people just left all these horses where they were because "there are thousands of them" then there would be thousands more wouldn't there? I think you've done a wonderful thing and I'm sure it will give you as much pleasure as it does him seeing him grow into the horse he should be. :)

^ love this! it's so true!

Well done OP for rescuing the poor little thing! Once he has some condition on him, and has his feet sorted out he looks like he'd be quite a nice little chap!

Best wishes with him, I'll look forward to reading his updates :)

It is very uplifting to find someone buying a horse in dreadful condition to give it another chance in life.

I am not trying to be critical here but have you had a vet give the pony a good going over? The only reason I am asking is that I have a slight suspicion that this poor chap might in fact be considerably older than the sellers stated? It sounds as though they were very inexperienced with horse care, so might not have been aware that weight loss, is just one symptom of problems associated with some older equines?

It could be that he looks as he does due to health problems associated with his considerable age or not being on a good worming programme? If it is true that they had him for a few years, then this weight loss due to lack of feeding could not have be sustained for that long surely? The pony would have died of malnutrition some time back? Or if they havent wormed him in all that time could it be severe worm damage?

Hope this doesn't offend you - just felt it might be worth mentioning but forgive me and ignore me if you have already checked all this out.:)

He looks very old to me too and I wouldn't be too overzealous about riding him as although he has "old man sinking" on his back he also looks to have a bit of a roach back. I think it's a very kind thing you've done and hopefully he will have many happy years with you :)

Well done for giving him another chance, ive tried to read all the other posts, so sorry if someone's already asked, but has this person got any more horses? If so id call the RSPCA or WHW on them.
