..... and I feel nervous!! Daft, I know, but I worry that they will think he doesn't look as good as when he was with them as he has lost a little weight (he needed to, it was raised in the vetting) and he's now rather hairy. Oh, and I have put his mane over on the other side (now on the correct side), and he is now working a little more through his back (I changed his bit and got him a saddle that wasn't like an ironing board/bar of soap and I have been schooling him when they said he only liked hacking and jumping - he will actually do a very nice test once we straighten the canter out), and I have had his back shoes taken off as he doesn't really need them.

But they really loved him, and the daughter has only just been able to consider coming over as she has apparently been in tears every time they suggested it before now (she outgrew him and got another pony).

I have sent them lots of photos and kept them in touch over the past few months, but although I genuinely offered that they could come and see him any time they wanted, I'm still feeling a little wobbly about it!

I am sure they will be able to tell how much you care for him and that is all you can ask for when you sell on a horse or pony, and it is very kind of you to keep them in the loop so dont worry.:)
 
Thanks everyone - I know I am just being silly, but it was one of those purchases where the buyer (me!) was interrogated as much as the seller! Other than a horse that I was happy to see the back of, I haven't sold any, but if I did, I know I would be a terrible seller and would question every aspect of my horse's new home!
 
No need to worry the things you have done for him have been in his best interest! And if they ask you can tell them exactly what you have told us-he was overwight so needed to lose a few pounds( dont we all!;) and Im pretty sure a lot of horses and ponies are getting a bit hairy at the moment-that doesnt make you a bad owner! good luck and enjoy catching up with them,it can be good for finding out little things about what he got upto when he was with them and what behaviour patterns he may have had? :)
 
I live at a yard and we often have old owners coming back, they are often so pleased to see the horse that they miss a lot of the changes that you have made. All of what you have said is good though so even if they do notice, its for the best! Besides, your the one in charge now :) Good luck though
 
Good for you. It sounds like everything you have done is for the better and I'd be more worried if you had said he was thin so I fattened him up, put shoes ON when they said he hated them and were hooning about in a Cheltenham Gag and a racing saddle on their (previously) advanced dressage horse. I think they will be delighted. Do you have room for another?

P.S. I'd have done the mane thing, too!
 
Thanks all - feeling a little better! Here he is a few days ago when the hunt was at the other side of the valley - guess he's done that at some point!!

He was for sale as an Arab x Exmoor, but according to someone in the know on here he couldn't be an Exmoor cross and be bay roan. I think he is more Arab x NF myself (he's around 13'3").

If I'd sold him to you and came to visit and he looked like that I'd be over the moon! I don't think you have anything to worry about :) What a lovely chap he is too. Very smart.

Thanks for your kind words! I think he looks good, but other than the daughter they seem quite unhorsey, so fingers crossed they will see it as an improvement. :)
 
He's looking the picture of health. I'm sure that the previous owners will be delighted to see how well he is looking.
My mare's previous owners came to visit us about a year after we bought her, they were just pleased to see that she was happy and healthy, they made no comment at all about the things that we had changed.
