Well the first one was a bit of a spur of the moment decision and so I was much more nervous about this one knowing I was going from about 3 weeks ago.
I had a lesson last night and Jenny jumped fab so I was actually feeling a bit more confidant this morning than I had been the night before.
We got there in plenty of time so I decided to do the clear round first. She jumped round that super so I declared for the BN thinking the CR was a good enough warm up for the class and so was second in. I was over the moon with her when she went clear - even though I had another dodgy stirrup moment and ended up doing half the round with only 1 stirrup. (This also happened in our last BN - I'm assuming its because my lower leg position isn't quite secure enough and although I never lose stirrups at home or unaff - I'm assuming the increased height of the jumps makes it more apparent - either that or its a coincidance - any opinions welcome!)
Anyway we then had a long wait for the jump off. I kept checking to see how many there were to go and even though there were no people declared on the board there were still hoards of people warming up so it was really hard to work out how many were left to go. When the class did finish the actual JO course was different to the one printed on the board and I was the first to go. I was at the show on my own as usual so it was then a rush back to the trailer to get poor Jenny who had been happily munching on her haynet thinking the day was finished. I got a telling off from the organiser for not being ready to go straight in and so basically Jen had to get off the trailer and straight into the ring with no warm up whatsoever. She is normally quite sharp and you could tell she was a bit confused by how steady she was to the first few. I then put her on an absolutely dreadful stride into the upright and she had no option but to stop (only the 2nd time she's ever stopped with me in 5 years). Unfortunately I didn't stop and sailed over her head and that was the end of that!
In hindsight I should of just stayed on her after my first round and pottered round until I knew the running order for the JO so that she didn't have to go straight into the JO cold. Its still all a bit of a learning curve atm. I feel a bit frustrated because if I had done that I wouldn't of known the correct course for the JO because it was down incorrectly on the board. Its very difficult when you have to compete on your own. Do you think if I mentioned I was on my own when I entered the class that they might try not to make me go first in the JO?
Anyway I'm going to go to an unaffiliated show tomorrow to boost both our confidances again. Our next BSJA outing is in 1 wk but its just an 80cm open class at an intro show so hopefully we should be back on form for that.
