After a disscussion at the yard last night.

What Horsey thing/subject do you pride yourselve on and what subject do you wish you knew more about and why?

My speciality would have to be handling from the ground, I am quite confident and I am used to handling all sorts of Horses from all ages. I am currently helping a friend with her youngster who she is planning on backing this summer, he was unhandled when she got him not long ago, but is now coming along nicely and proving to be a nice pony, I love de-spooking him!

My downfall, is feeding. I've never had to choose what to feed before. After looking after other peoples Horses all this time I've just fed what owner has asked me too. I didn't realise how many different types of feed are on the market. I guess this is a subject I will learn as I go along! so expect more feeding questions in the future :p

I'm pretty hot on tendons/wound dressing and biomechanics and conditioning. But not so hot on saddle/tack fitting... Must try harder!! ;-)

What a great post, i would say my speciality is sensitive horses and youngsters. I get on great with sensitive horses who require calm quiet riders/handlers. I love bringing them on and building a relationship/trust with them. My weakness i would say is ability past a certain level. Fancy dressage movements particularly as I have never done anything more than a bit of leg yielding and shoulder in etc. Would love to be able to do piaffe, passage etc but wouldn't have a clue how to do it, although my horse can do both beautifully when she is trying to catch up with horses in front and i won't let her canter :-)

Winklepoker, I am also not great with tack, I know the very basics. Luckily at the moment is not an issue as I asked old owner what size bit she was and what she had which she goes nicely in, Hopefully I won't have to change it and she will continue to go well in her eggbut snaffle.

I am good with handling on the ground, schooling/training of youngsters, ok with feeding (I know what feeds I think are good and which arne't!!), anything quirky etc I am good at calming them down, but good at jigging up a lazy horse. Oh and giving injections!

Feet however I am awful at. Unless a horses feet were drastically long, or curling, I am shockingly bad. I have no idea if my horse has contracted heel's, if she is flat footed etc. I also couldn't take a shoe off if the occasion called for it!
