I noticed the weather starting to change - and the older pony is getting woolly! However, its a bit early yet and I've decided to stay with the summer routine for a bit longer otherwise I don't think they will feel the benefits of the winter routine when it really is cold. Also, where we are the flies are still a problem so think the neddy's appreciate being away from them in the stable during the day rather than protecting them from the cold at the moment ... Its still August (just) : )

My old boys in during day mainly due to flies and out at night with no fill NZ on the cooler nights, but is still growing a coat.

Hope to keep him out for another couple of weeks then swap to out during day in at night. He isn't so keen to come in during mornings now, as there are lightly less flies around.

We keep ours out at night until the clocks change in October...depending on the weather of course.
We go on the rule of if it's going to rain but be above 10 deg then a lightweight/rain sheet will do. Below 10 deg then a medium weight.
Remember it might be chilly for you but they have waterproof coats built in!!!

Mine is out 24/7 with nothing on atm (although he is on v good grazing). If it starts to get much colder or if the grass starts to go down then i'll put a l/w on.
