Still going to by Wendy but have for the last 3 weeks been riding a very nice 8yr old 14.2hh scewbald (sp) Very nice jump (just point her at it), never been taught how to bend or come into a contact (prev. owner steared with outside rein) needs lots of work on flat. But has apparently been to several shows (not sure how as flat work appauling and fairly sure that the ability to bend is needed when jumping in a comp??). She also rears when excited/stressed and in open spaces. This is the first pony I have gelled so well with in years and was seriously considering buying her instead of Wendy. Until I found out that she is 7 grand no offers... I had her pegged at between 3-4 grand based on amount of work needed. Is she realistically priced for what you get? And what would you guys pay for a pony like this?

Choccies if you made it this far :D

To give you an idea.....
I just bought my 14.2hh skewbald irish sports x cob. 12 years old.
He jumps anything you point him at. Is good on the ground. Walks over to you when you go to catch him. Good for farrier. Good to load. Does xc.
Perfect in traffic. A bit spooky. Definately more 2nd pony than first. Good on the flat but a bit rusty. Hacks out brilliantly in company. A bit nappy on his own...but working on that and he is showing great improvementn. Snaffle mouthed.
I paid £1500 inc tack, 1 heavyweight turn out, 2 stable rugs, 2 fleeces, a fly mask, travel boots and headcollar and 2 leadropes.....oh and a folding hoofpick! randomly!

I would say that despite it jumping nicely that is hideously overpriced.

Not really living in the real world are they?! :D:D

I wouldn't pay anymore than about £1.5K.....but given that she rears, she would have to be really special for that price!

Can I be really picky and say, you are meant to use your outside rein to steer. Very overpriced tho!

I don't think to the extent that the horse constantly turns head to the out side. It defeats the object of inside bend... I think . I also thought it was open outside rein and encourage inside bend with inside rein and your leg? Could be wrong though :D

They can dream, be interesting to see how long it takes before it is reduced (substantially!!)

I'm hoping they reduce it soon. Made an offer for her to YO so they can tell owners though it will most likely be rejected as way bellow asking price... but one can only hope :D

Eh? The outside rein is for balance not for stearing!

OP - pony is muchos overpriced - they must be living in a parallel universe where unschooled ponies who rear are worth money! Would not pay more than £1500 and even then I would have to think about it!

I saw a pony I know for for £7k the other day too. 13.2hh, 8 yr old. Has a nice steady jump on him, can do 3ft course. But flat work only average. Just a nice PC pony. But not £7k!! Ad said BSJA reg... well we can all REG with BSJA can't we! Doesn't mean anything! Don't think they've sold it. Shame cause it's a genuinely lovely pony, at the right price would sell quickly.

I had a total saint of a 13.2 NF reg pony a few years ago (before prices crashed!!). 4 yr old with head of a 10 yr old. Placed in her first PuK show, 60% in first dresage test. Total gem in every way. Sold her for £2500. If she'd been older she'd have been more, but noone will ever believe that a 4 yr old is a total saint! (I actually sold her to a friend, who did believe me, but I wouldn't rip a friend off for more than market value)

If you like it, hold back, let them advertise and not sell then go in with an offer

Given that there was a post last week, someone selling a 14hh cob ish mare that was a bit jazzy, not novice ride but safe, jumps well, and needed quick sale for £950 I'd say yes, very over priced!!

Re. the steering. Whatever rein you use, or legs or anything, the pony should not have its head pulled to the outside. That is fairly obvious to anyone, GP instructor or not. ;)

When I say use your outside rein for steering, I don't mean using it to pull the pony out onto the track. It's obviously a combination of inside leg and inside rein for bend and outside rein against the neck to stop the shoulder from wandering. I never should have commented!!! Anyway, the pony seems like it needs a lot of schooling before it could be sold for a decent price and it's unlikely to ever achieve anything like that price. Hopefully they will realise their mistake when they get absolutely no interest!

Wouldn't pay more than £1500 tbh, maybe stretch to £2000 but it sounds like a project pony to me! I hope you haven't put in a high offer! If it does sell it will be to someone with more money than sense!
