Outdoor school top up?

We are just about to move into a new yard. The surface in the outdoor school is wood chip (quite large pieces) which rides and jumps lovely, but we think that in the not too distant future it will need a top up. But we are not sure whether to go with the same or we have a contact that we could get some rubber quite cheaply but we are unsure if rubber and wood chip go together?? Advice please

Woodchip surfaces become slippery in the wet & they also rot down. Additionally if you wish to jump reasonable heights then they are not suitable as they don't offer the support on landing & can also cause the horse to slip on take off. Woodchip surfaces are the cheapest to buy but deteriorate quickest. I don't think that rubber mixed with it would be a good idea. Normally rubber crumb, strands etc are added to silica sand to make a surface.
