Hi, I have a new horse (bought by my parents) he is in the garden (large garden/small field) Im undecided as to weather I want a shed built or to look around at livery (what is this..my frient mentioned it?). He has a rug (so not feeling the cold in the mean time)
I will be learning to ride in the next few weeks.
Im keeping him bare feet, after reading the no shoes post by cptrayess, I would like to keep him as nature intended no jimmy choos lol!!!
So I need a little advice on food, and anything I will need for him.
He is 15 yrs a thoroughbred x racer and his name is Outkast.

Are you pissed and lost your way home?

Also, my dog chases him Im not sure how to stop him, can you help?
He runs into my garen and tried t herd my horse but sometimes nearly gets kicked and I cant stop my dog from stopping him. Do you think I need to keep my dog inside? my horse usually ignores im but sometimes tries to kick?

Congratulations on your new neddie. hope you have lots of fun with him, you will as he will be mega fast.

feeding, - oats oats and more oats, they need it for energy.
Bare feet, - that's all very well til he steps on a tack, well how would you like it? Much cheaper though as you can go on a weekend course and learn how to trim his feet yourself. You could even make a bit of dosh doing it as a business.
Livery Yard, - that's a place where you keep your horse in exchange for money. Mostly it consists of a variety of mainly women and the odd gay bloke. They tend to go in for sitting aorund drinking coffee and bitching about whichever person isn't around at the time. Don't worry, you will get a shot of bitching and being bitched about. They will give you loads of advice though which will be valuable to you as they all know everything. Sometimes someone will sweep up just so they can moan that they are the only one that does it. If you are on diy it will mean that you have to muck out, that means clean out your stable. Personally I don't bother, the dirty wee madam just makes a mess of it again!
Lessons, - don't bother, just buy a cheap saddle from e-bay and hop on, it's not that hard, well look at some of the numpties that do it. If I can do it then so can you, it's easy enough.

Thanks for replying, i was worrying no one would reply lol!
Thanks for your advice re livery yards, I will try and find a good one..
I was adviced to get a saddly fitter out to fit outkast a saddle, aparently he is extra wide? - Dont you think he needs one? Seriously because I've been advised to spend quite a bit of money having a saddly fitted along with his teeth etc? ...Sorry to double check with you, but if i dont need to spend that much and what you say is true, obviously I dont want to overspend!!!
thanks xx
