Outrage at US Marine throwing puppy to its death in Iraq

Following information taken from Animal Defenders International

"A video posted online, shows a smiling US Marine in combat gear, laughing then throwing a squealing puppy over a cliff in Iraq to its certain death. The Marine comments whilst doing so, in a child-like voice: “Cute little puppy, huh? Oh so cute, so cute little puppy.” At least one other soldier witnessed the cruelty.

The Marine Corps have stated: “The content of the video is deplorable and contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine at home and abroad.”

i read that earlier today and i am feeling sick at the thought of it and my blood is boiling,who do i contact without watching the video ???
 
Im sorry for both the pup and the marine. These people are brain dead and have no morals-how could it be otherwise if they can kill women and children and call it "all in a days work"! At least the pup wasnt raped before being killed. One less dirty dog in Iraq. Hope he never has children of his own

Whilst I cannot and do not condone the bahaviour of that Marine, I do think there is probably an awful lot more to it than a video. It is not an action that a normal human adult would carry out, which makes me think that something has happened, probably while on his tour of duty, to make him behave like that, to alter his sense of normality, to change normal behaviour. It is still, despite all the campaigns, considered weak to seek help for PTSD, and the counselling provided is utterly inadequate. Whilst the means are undesirable without a doubt, hopefully the outcome will be that there is improved counselling and understanding of PTSD etc. I do not think the Marine should be dishonourably discharged - I think the military should take responsibility for its men and women, who devote their lives in service of their country, not throw them out when something goes wrong.
 
That may be true but, the article imples there was at least one ever person present- someone else says something and the obviously the person filling- these could be the same people, or different
Then, theres the idiot, mabye one of them, who thought it a good idea to put on youtube, with possible more people involved in that, ad some people may even have condiered it funny
Somewhat ironic though, these are the people fighing against cruelty(i assume thats why were still there???), for human rights, yet they still thnk it funny to kill poor dogs
 
whilst in no way do i condone what this Marine has done, unfortunately the "theatre of war" can and does change one's perspective on things..

i always throw my mind back to the way the vietnam war had an adverse effect on the minds of US soldiers..and unfortunately, tings seem to be travelling on a paralel in Iraq....
 
I agree. I watched Hamburger Hill the other night, which is about Vietnam, and those soldiers were absolutely destroyed mentally.

Whilst not condoning the cruetly, I do think that war does make a mess of peoples minds. An ex of mine went to the first Iraq war and came back unable to talk about his experiences. He had to clear a road full of dead bodies and it totally freaked him out. He never was the same after that.
 
being a little older, i went out with a guy who'd been on the Sir Galahad (faulklands)...he was, bless him, shot away.....i did hear that 12 yrs ago he comitted suicide...god rest his soul...
 
I agree that the war can drastically mess a persons mind up, but this is such a cruel and needless act that I can in no way see any way to understand it. It is truely horrific
 
Or maybe they thought that the media could bring attention to how dire the support system is for them out there, and when they come home. I've known several friends who have been utterly changed by things they have seen / done in the service, and don't think animal charities who write pieces like that have any understanding of the reasons why. They should not be looking for this man's dismissal, but for changes in policies to prevent future incidents. It isn't a case where punishing one will deter others - wrong sort of set up.
 
I VERY much doubt thats why they put it on youtube, given they were apparnetly laughing and loking happy about it, i dont thinkthe act was a statement about the support system
I agree that the things people see must change their attitudes completly, and that no one can be prepared for it
But i can in no way condone it, especitally being vegitarien, i have no threshold (not the right word, couldnt think of it) for animal cruelty of any kind, to dogs, equines, hunting, shooting anything like that
 
I understand what you are saying Emma69 but it is also true that there are inevitably going to be (by law of averages) a few low lifers in the US military, just as there are in the British military. This sort of thing is not uncommon, and a sad reflection on society, some might say encouraged by facilities such as YouTube.
 
F@,%ing B@"?ard. There are no excuses for this these people are supposed to be trained to deal with war situations. I hope they throw the book at him. This sort of things totally undoes any good anyone thinks they may have done. I am gonna complain but site is down at the mo.
 
This man has also probably killed one, several or hundreds of innocent people as well. All in a day's work. Where is the outrage for them? If only this sort of emotion ran as high for human beings as it does for puppies. One more dead child, no reaction. A puppy? Horror.
 
Yes it is horror, no-one is saying human loss of life is any less awful but most people on this forum are animal lovers and an animal is innocent, they don't start wars, they kill to eat not for any other reason. I bet that b'@S~~D wouldn't have dared thrown a child to its death.
 
No, probably not. No doubt they will stick to bombing people, but doubtless animals die in the bombings too. I don't suppose the soldiers want to be there any more than we want them to be. If you desensitive a human being, this is the result.
 
This is a really big story its all over the media. It was done by a 22 yr old called David Morvarti or something similar. He is a disgrace.

I daren't watch the video or click the link. Sooty is right and so is everyone else, but I expect there would be an even bigger outcry if the video showed a child being dropped over a cliff. If nobody hilights the horrors, maybe even in graphic detail then what can we do about what we don't know about?

To add another angle of less importance to it, why on earth hasn't you tube banned it?! SURELY it must breach their rules??

Maybe the guy is mentally ill after what he's seen and maybe done whilst serving. But that doesn't make it in any way ok. I don't know how many people were involved in the video, but each one who laughed and filmed it was just as sick as the perpetrator.

.. lets not forget the case closer to home that was on here not logn ago of several boys taking a butchers knife to a horse "on the spur of the moment" - they weren't damaged from serving in a war as far as I know

Very good idea. I stupidly clicked the video and now wished I hadn't as my lunch is threatening to repeat on me. I'm just speachless, I cannot understand how a human being can get to the mental state where he thinks that that kind of an act is a. acceptable and b. funny!!

If it is a mental issue due to the war (rather than just the way he is) then maybe there should be much stricter phsyc tests before being allowed on the front line. Its not health for the soldier and clearly not healthy for any innocent human/animal that happens to cross his path.
 
I am also vegetarian, but I tend to have more compassion for humans than animals. I don't condone it, but I also think that something along the line has gone terribly wrong for this person, and those with him, to alter their senses of what is acceptable, and what is not. I think it is incredibly easy for people to sit and judge, but I doubt that half the people reading this would have the bravery, courage and skills to go to war for their country.
 
I'm not saying there aren't low lives, but the fact is no one knows what these people have gone through, and as such, don't think you can throw them into the bracket of 'yobs' like someone else mentioned. I just don't think it is that simple.
