Maddie, who we lost in February had ovarian cysts.
She'd never been the friendliest mare, and when she began to get grumpier, we just put it down to her getting older and other things.
The cysts were playing havoc with her hormones, and we don't know how long she had them for. Her behaviour could have been due to this for quite a while.
I don't really know what the purpose of this post is, i've just been looking at some photos and this video i made when she was pts

i suppose just to say that, even if your horse is normally grumpy, if their behaviour changes quite a lot, get it checked sooner rather than later, as we didn't know what the cause of her hormone changes were until after she was pts.
Nothing could have been done in Maddie's case but maybe if we'd known sooner, we could have saved her a bit of suffering.
She's in a better place now, no doubt terrorising everyone whereever she is
