Has anyone on here had an ovary removed by keyhole surgery? I have just been told I need to have an ovary removed due to a persistent cyst. Just wondered how this will affect my horsecare routine? How much time off will I need before being able to drive, muck out, carry water buckets etc?

Sorry no advice...but always makes me smile that whenever a horsey person has anything like surgery or anything done....the only main concern is always how long till they can be back round their horses and riding! lol love it

Good luck with your op x

I had keyehole to take out fibroids. They didn't take them out in the end as too big but it knocked me about for about 2 weeks.
I too posted about how long I would be out of action. lol

That's so wierd - I just said to my OH that I don't want my right one anymore! I'm going to make an appointment with the Dr to get it scanned again and see if I can convince them to remove it. I have PCOS and it has been better because I've been on Dianette, but had a long day's hunting today and it's giving me jip again, it's really sore tonight, so would just be easier to have the damned useless thing removed!

Just did a quick google and found a discussion forum:

If you have a general anaesthetic you need to check with your car insurers as lot do NOT insure drivers to drive for 6 weeks after a GA. I had an oophorectomy but had an abdominal incision, so was out of action for 6 months. I would say with key hole a couple of weeks or so. Listen to your body, don't push yourself as you will have internal wounds that need to heal. We all take different times to recover, if you are sensible you'll be fully fit in no time at all.

Good Luck

A couple of weeks in my case. I had a bilateral oopharectomy (sp!) a year last November. I couldn't drive for a couple of weeks if I remember correctly, couldn't muck out, and wasn't meant to ride. Also had a stinking cold, so found it easy to rest lol. Hope it goes well. PM me if you want

I had a GA for something similar about 2yrs ago, and could drive after 3 days?! I was back riding again after about 5days (!). It was meant to be 2 weeks, but as long as you're comfortable and the incision isn't at risk of being disturbed, you should be ok. Everyone is different though
