My yearling gelding moved home this weekend and is living out 24/7 with 3 mares. 1 mare takes absolutely no notice, 1 seems friendly enough but the other has been relentlessly aggressive towards him. She will chase him, try to bite/ strike/ kick him etc, he runs the minute she comes towards him but she is completely preventing him from interacting with the others. She is not the lead mare either. It seems she is trying to put him in his place but it's nasty and she's 16hh with 4 shoes! I am unsure whether she will settle down as she is keeping him the outsider but i don't want him on his own and it's worrying me?!?

Its still very early days yet so give them a little more time and hopefully they will settle.
Could you may be try fencing a bit off and having him just next to them for a while so they can get to know each other safely.
I am sure it will be fine as they are just sorting out the natural pecking order. In the wild it would be exactly the same but they would just have more space to keep their distance for a while until they are accepted.
Good luck

Thanks. Well i put him in a field next to them and he popped himself over both times! So he must want to be in there but shes just so nasty towards him! I know its early days but i'm worrying about the little guy with no friends!
