Recently I have noticed that I tend to over fold when I am jumping, ok when I am doing stuf over 3ft, but definatly over jumping anything smaller, if that makes sense. I am worried it I becoming a habit, as dont realise I am doing it till I look back at photos.

Any tips please?

Thanks

i have the same problem and my trainer who is a pure showjumper spent loads of time trying to correct it

basically sit up coming into the fence, as you take off just push your hand up the horse's neck a small amount so that they can stretch and look up - do nothing else! thats all you have to do! ( while keeping your lower leg still and secure underneath you!)

hope that makes sense?

It is something I have wanted to point out to you mh, but you had lots of things to work on that I didn't want to throw something else in ATM

Ditto what Hattikins says about making it better - let the horse guide your body position over the fence.

1 of my friends saw some event photos of herself and realised that she overfolded, which is not a good idea on her horse, as he is prone to dirty stops.

I worked with her to train her out of it and she is a lot better now.

well if you are sure, i still have them anywayk i am now about to try and figure out how to do mine again hehe

Maybe, I found helped was to just jump over poles and feel a lift in the canter to help you not fold soooo much..think about keeping your bum closer to the saddle and fold from the hips ..another way was to stand on a pole and practice folding and keeping your balance!!!!??????

I seem to have the same problem too. But the horse i jump seems to jump everything 3 times bigger than he has too ie. he jumps 3,6 as though it is 4,6 so im not sure if it does count as over folding?? im have just confused myself with that post sorry

I was watching a Whitaker Masterclass on Horse & Country TV. Ellen and Joe were on horses, Stephen on the ground. I think Ellen sits beautifully on a horse and appears to be in total harmony with the horse as he takes off, in the air and on landing. I try to keep a picture of her in mind as I jump. Would be worth a watch if you get a chance.

this is my biggest problem, I cringe every time I see pictures! I never used to do it and don't really know when it developed because I went a long time with no horse and no lessons. I think it may be not having total faith in the horse and trying to do too much myself, which is no help whatsoever!! I was told that thinking about sucking your stomach towards your back helps prevent collapsing forwards, but when it actually comes to it I'm usually thinking about too many other things and forget!!
