Over-graded?!

Hi.

Just wondered what over-graded (HC) meant in British Eventing?

Probably means it is competing in a class it is not eligible for i.e. has points and is in a BE90 or BE100 or too many for a Novice or Intermediate

That's what I thought, but it was a BE100 and the horse has no points? Could it be to do with the rider?

Not at BE100 there is no restrictions on rider.

Sorry, just went and double checked and it was BE90?

Was it a restricted class, U18, ROR, Veteran etc where the horse or rider was not eligible so ran HC?

At BE90 anyrider that has ridden advanced in the current or past two season must do so HC so that may be your answer!

I have always understood that 'Hors Concours' or 'HC' means ‘without competing’, no matter what disapline, resulting in the fact you will not be counted when calculating the competition placings.

Perhaps in the example you are giving the combination needed to see if they could do a BE100 or they needed to drop down and have a confidence run.

Or potentially the horse has points from somewhere else- one horse who is local to us was doing open classes or going HC and I couldn't work out why until I realised it has points from when it was in Ireland.
