My pony isn’t the biggest fan of jumping and she’ll run out and all that, but when she actually gets over the fence she LEAPS. Even at 40cm cross poles she jumps them huge. I’m not very experienced with horses like this so I get thrown forward all the time. I don’t really know what to do or how to break this habit. Any tips?

None of us can see what is happening, but I suspect that your pony is unsure and is afraid of something. Possibly when you are left behind, you are catching her in the mouth?

I would recommend a good instructor who can see what is happening.

Over jumping is a typical green reaction. I’d recommend getting someone a bit more experienced to give her more confidence over fences before you give yourself a scare (and end up with a pony who hates jumping).

Sounds like she is very unsure and not confident at all, coupled with maybe a rider loosing balance and scaring her more. Think if it like her taking a deep breath, shutting her eyes and hoping for the best. Get an instructor to help you.

I agree you need an instructor to help. They will be able to set up the jumps to make it as easy as possible for the pony to jump therefore helping confidence. A neckstrap might be helpful as well.

Not the biggest fan because something is wrong. She maybe doesn't understand how to complete the exercise comfortably, due to lack of correct education or something is 'hurting' - might be the rider, a lameness or tack issue. Get proper help and please don't continue this exercise in confusion and panic.

I never jump my horse alone, I only jump with an instructor for anyone wondering. Recently my instructor abd my very experienced friend has been riding her to help.

And does she give so much air to the fence when someone else is riding?

Poles, poles and more poles in random places in the school. Then grids of poles, particularly canter poles. Then raised poles.

I have my instructor and a more experienced friend ride her for me and she over jumps with them too.

Take a step back to poles on the ground. The pony sounds like she lacks confidence. She should be able to calmly walk over poles on the ground before progressing to trot then canter.
