Over reach boots 24/7?

Hi everyone. Is this possible or advisable? is there a special boot for this?

Sleepy's been hoolying around his field - again. So I come down the yard, bring him in, usual all over inspection, to be greeted by yet another lump he's taken out of his front foot by the coronet band - again. This time it's over 40mm long.

So given i can't stop him being a total TB can I put over reach boots on whilst he's out? Worried about the boots rubbing if they are on for very long periods given the usual TB baby skin.

Any advice?
 
My warmblood can pull off his shoes, so he lives in over reachers day and night. One night I found him where he had pulled off his shoe and come down on a nail, he couldnt move. Not risking it again. living in over reachers has not hurt or rubbed him. He is fine.
 
My welsh x mare has overreach boots on all summer because she chips her front hooves when the grounds hard. Shes never even got them off, and shes the fussiest mare ever when it comes to stuff on her feet/legs. Shes all smug that she has them and Mysti doesnt :rolleyes:
 
A TB on my yard is also a typical loon and last year basically detached her front foot from her leg but miraculously nothing major was damaged, she lives in over reach boots over night and has them off when she comes in for a couple of hours but if she doesnt come in she has them on 24/7 and she hasnt been rubbed yet aslong as u inspect regularly so if mud etc in there u can remove it x
 
Thanks for those replies. Funky rubber over reach boots it is. Yes he has pulled the odd shoe off in the past but when he actually starts slicing himself up it's time to draw a line.

I have a loony tunes TB, too. I put him out in cheapy rubber bell boots, but the ones with the fake fur around the edge, as he is rather sensitive and gets rubbed easily. :)
 
Yep my horse too. I have a rubber set and a neoprene set and I swap them over so they don't rub. I like the neoprene ones as they are breathable.
You have to keep them clean on the inside as mud can cause rubbing.
 
My boy has over reach boots on 24/7. He used to have the fabric sort of ones but grass etc stuck to them so just got a cheap pair of rubber ones. I have had no problems with rubbing even in the wet.
 
yep, my tb is out in them to, no rubs, he's out at night and in during the day. No rubs. I again as the others use the cheap £5 a go ones. but i think they have saved me a fortune in vet bills, as the amount of times he has come in with them ripped or sliced off, and if they werent on that would of been his foot.
 
hey up.. I have an idiotic baby warmblood who has seriously sensitive skin. He has overreach boots on all the time and they did rub. I have actually bought a load of fluffy nose band covers (£1 from robinsones) and sewn them around the edges of his over reach boots and they are now absolutley fine.
I find they rub especially in the winter so making sure they get to dry out and can be washed really helps. Our fields raely get muddy so he's not in deep mud with them on.

My very own budget version of those lovely eskadron ones!
 
My boy wears Pariani overreach boots 24/7. They do not rub at all and please believe me that if they were going to they would as he's got very thin sensitive skin (pure bred arab).

They aren't the cheapest at around £12 but they are brilliant and they last forever as they are much sturdier than the £5 ones.
