Hi

Please can someone offer advice?

Thurs morning boy came out of stable with slightly swollen and warm front leg. Swelling was more on the inside of his leg, close to fetlock and along tendon.

He went out and swelling was gone by evening. As soon as he was in it started to swell and get hot.

Fri morning hot and swollen..again went out and swelling went down. It came up again once he was in.

I am told it is unlikely to be a tendon injury as the swelling would not reduce with movement.

He has an over reach injury on the bulb of that heal. I have been cold hosing and that reduces the swelling.

Do you think that the over reach injury has become infected? He is completely sound and isn't bothered by it. It has no puss/blood or anything. The swelling is over his pastern, slightly on fetlock area and up the tendon.

Anything I can do to treat myself...he is clumsy so my first aid kit is pretty extensive or should I get the vet tomorrow? Should I exercise if he is sound and movement helps the swelling?

Thanks all!!

Thanks...as its the weekend I was hoping to get some advice from knowledgeable people on here before I call them tomorrow. Someone might have a suggestion I can do later today with him before the vet is involved.

Yes and if your vet is reasonable and you phone the emergency service today to ask for advice you might get some "knowledgeable" help without the vet coming out as an emergency.

Could still be a tendon injury. My old mare had similar, kept going up and down and turned out to be tendon sheath. Cold hose, ice boot if you have one, box rest and get vet.
It's not worth the risk, my mare's owner told me it was just fluid retention caused by old age and to turn her out - big mistake, she ended up with scar tissue that had to be removed.
