in the field today my horse managed to over reach...(sideways) his hind foot i cleaned it up and poltised it.

Just wondered if anyone elses horses do this. this is the first time hes done it but now hes more forward he has caught his back legs a couple of times also.

Any advice?

Ouch that looks sore. Bathe in warm salt water and maybe some anti-bacterial gel. Over reach boots when out, helped my mare keep her egg bar shoes on.

If he is on his own in the field I would suggest a tread and using a sausage boot.
If he is in the field with another horse I would suggest over reach boots on his hinds.
Bryndu:)

he does has a field mate and they are normally fine together but she came in with a superficial kick mark on her bum, i think something set them of as they were fine one minute then going mad another... i think it might have to be over reach boots all round!

over reach boots on the back is the simplest option. I know our huntsmans horse used to wear one OR boot as he only ever trod left on right - looked a bit odd, but worked. He's since "grown" out of the trick!
