Over reaching & losing shoes

Darling boy seems to have developed a new trick of pulling off front shoes lately. The ground is dry and lovely so they aren't coming off in the mud, he is shod every 5-6 weeks by my lovely farrier who does a cracking job but in the last 4-5 weeks he seems to be pulling a shoe off every week :(

It isn't always the same one and I know he is probably pulling them off by over reaching/larking about in the field. He has over reach boots on whilst turned out and whilst ridden and they are still coming off :( He even managed to ping a shoe off xc schooling at the weekend (he was rather rapid and pingy). His feet aren't soft and I did try him barefoot when he got brough back into work last year but he refused to budge off the yard even in hoof boots, then magically did when I put shoes back on him (no idea, strange horse). Farrier has suggested changing the break over and putting side clips on to try and help - any other ideas as I can't be doing with this every week and I am sure my lovely farrier might kill me... He is fed on a low sugar/starch diet of alpha a oil/linseed/oats/selenevite e/yea sacc/salt/joint supplement and always has been (oats are newish from a couple months ago but have made him bloom).

I did see some heel protector things ages ago but I can't remember the name of them...

I think I would try side clips and see if that makes a difference. Maybe try buying over reach boots a size bigger too?

Shoe pullers are awful mine used to be one!
Ended up taking his shoes off for a bit, only put them back on under vets advice due to suspected lami / being diagnosed with cushings. Plus my yard is just cobbles and stones everywhere - it wasn't fair to watch him be uncomfortable, would loved to have gone BF full time but the conditions on my yard are far from ideal to rehab fully.
 
Aha thats them! Shall try lovely farriers advice first then might ponder being a guinea pig

Dear pony is the only horse I know that can pull his own back shoes off on box rest.....

I have had this annoyance with my Sec C.....and after much head scratching...Mr Farrier decided he was pulling them off because they were too long at the back.
So......he put on the next size shoe down...which was shorter at the heel by probably only 1/2 an inch....but it has made all the difference...we ain't lost a shoe since.
Now for all of you becoming slightly outraged at my farrier putting a smaller shoe on my pony....I shall explain that it took him ages to make the shoe big enough and round enough to fit the foot.....and in no way did he do anything to make the foot smaller to fit the shoe.
Is it worth asking your farrier about this....?

Had a chat with lovely farrier this morning who is head scratching about it, he was tinkering with his shoes when I got there and has changed the shape of his shoes, plus changed the breakover and put clips on. If that doesn't work we might try smaller custom shoes as above (he will probs kill one of us if he does it again so soon)!

He also said he knows a couple of people who tried the shoe secure and wasn't convinced about them for my boy

These have been a god send for me and my over reaching tb. Changing the breakover resulted in heel pain for him as he didn't have enough support - honestly I have been through months of nightmares with his feet and since getting the shoe secures in Dec he hasn't lost a single shoe. His feet have finally have the chance they need to grow into a decent shape and he is so much nicer to work with now that he is happy and comfy. Can't recommend them enough.
 
This is a problem my boy had, even with a size larger over reach boot when turned out. The Farrier started him in hunter style shoes which don't stick out as much at the back plus two clips (on front shoes) & so far the problem is solved. Though I wouldn't dare take the over reach boots off, I'm not that brave. I've just got to wait while the nail holes grow out & there are a lot of them given how many times shoes were put back on. He is slow growing hoof aswell but I'm looking forward to him looking a lot more presentable.

yes but is he turned out?
 
I had this problem with my lad when I first got him, he has over reach boots on, side clips on shoes and micronised linseed has made big difference to the problem...touch wood, never pulls a shoe now and hasnt for years...
