My mums section D mare was being ridden on a RC lesson and is not prone to over-reaching, she was ridden as normal, walk trot canter etc and then taken into a field which was cut about a week or 2 ago for haylage, she then managed to pull off her from 2 shoes! Like I have said she isnt prone to this and it is very odd, she tracks up usually but not normally the over-reaching type! The Instructor says " Its the hard ground!" Personally I do not understand how a factor like hard ground could make her over-reach!

Your opinions welcomed

One Boy...

Horses can do wierd things. Not much help but my boy came in from the field minus both hind shoes the other day - he'd only been out 2hrs! Has the horse cut themself or just removed the shoes? If the shoes have been removed with no damage to the coronet band I'd say it was caused by shoeing - either she had loose shoes/was due shoeing/the shoes were not fitted correctly. If she has done some damage I'd just wear O/R boots in future - better safe than sorry.
